Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya have basically both wanted to be in ‘Dune’ forever

It's almost unfair to have Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet and Emmy-winning actress Zendaya in the same movie as Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar Isaac. Dune has already garnered a plethora of great reviews on the film festival circuit, including an 8-minute standing ovation during the official world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. According to the stars, there's good reason.

“This movie is a ride,” Timothée told Etalk’s Tyrone Edwards.

“Pee before!” Zendaya added, making the point that movie buffs should expect not to leave their seats during the two-hour-35-minute film.

“To those who are sensitive to Hans Zimmer’s creation, bring some earplugs!” Timothée joked.

It turns out, Timmy has kind of been waiting for this day since he was 15 years old. It was then that he did his first-ever audition for Dune director Denis Villeneuve, also known for Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival.

"He is one of the best, if not the best working director right now,” Timothée said of the Canadian filmmaker. “I’m not just saying that because I’m talking on a Canadian talk show!” We know you wouldn't lie to us, Timothée.

“I had auditioned for Prisoners when I was 15 years old, a movie with Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman, so I’ve been trying to work with him for a long time," he explained. Just imagine a world where we were introduced to 15-year-old Timothée Chalamet next to Jake Gyllenhaal. We digress.

“Every movie [Villeneuve] makes, I just wish I could watch it again for the first time. Such special filmmaking,” Zendaya added. “He’s masterful at what he does.”

Z has also been dreaming of being in this movie for a long time. For her, the infatuation started with the 1984 film adaptation starring Kyle MacLachlan, Francesca Annis, and Patrick Stewart.

When she watched that movie and saw that there was a young woman from another planet in a starring role, Zendaya explained she thought, “I can do this, I just want to get in the room!” Honestly, after her brilliance in Euphoria, we'd like to see anybody try.

This year's Dune is the latest movie adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 best-selling sci-fi novel. The saga of attempts to bring the book to screen is long, expensive and well documented, but this one has seemed incredibly promising to fans of the book. The 1984 version received mixed reviews, but remains a sci-fi classic.

The latest iteration has been in the works since 2016 when it was announced that French-Canadian filmmaker, Denis Villeneuve, closed a deal with Frank Herbert’s estate to obtain the rights to make a movie and television adaptation. Even once the movie was made, there was an extended delay when the movie, which was supposed to premiere in 2020, was held due to the COVID-19 shutdown.

While fans are excited for the film itself, one of the best things that's come from it is Timothée and Zendaya’s friendship. They are the true definition of friendship goals and it's sure to be a pleasure watching them share the big screen.

We wouldn’t want to finish off 2021 any other way.
