Last night the VMA’s took the crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey by storm. Hosted by Nicki Minaj, there was a bevvy of high profile, iconic performers, like Sean P. Diddy Combs, who was honoured with the Global Icon Award after performing his mega hits like “Mo Money Mo Problems” "I'll Be Missing You" and "It’s All About the Benjamins." "She Wolf" legend Shakira accepted the Video Vanguard Award and gave a medley performance which of course included “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Whenever Wherever” and "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53."

But there were some exciting and buzzworthy moments both on and off the stage. Did you see the exchange of words between Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake? How about the reunion of besties Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez? Also Taylor vibing out to Shakira and shaking her hips is all of us. If you missed these golden moments, we got you covered.

Taylor Swift wins big

Taylor Swift cleaned up at the VMA’s continuing her winning streak that has lasted *checks watch* 50 million years. She won the most awards of the evening, including Artist of the Year, making her the second-most awarded musician in the the award’s history, with the first being (of course) Beyonce. 

Her nine awards include best pop, song of the year and video of the year, the second year in a row she’s won Video of the Year. And she gushed in her acceptance speech about her love of her fans. “This is unbelievable. The fact that this is a fan-voted award means so much to me,” she said. “It's really felt like the adventure of a lifetime this past year. I cannot believe that it was a year ago at the VMAs that I announced the 'Midnights' album. All I have to say tonight is thank you."

NSYNC has a surprise reunion

Legendary 90s boyband NSYNC, comprised of Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick, reunited on the stage, over 20 years since their last album “Celebrity” was released in 2001. The boys were there to present the moon man for best pop award to (you guessed it) Taylor Swift, and the “Anti-Hero” songstress used the moment to profess her undying love for the fab five, and ask what we’re all thinking - is there a new album in the works? THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW!

"I had your dolls," she told them on the mic. "What’s going to happen now? They’re doing something and I need to know what it is. You’re pop personified so to receive this from your golden pop hands is really too much.”

Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake exchange words

Backstage, there was video (but not audio) that took social media by storm, when it appeared that “WAP” rapper Megan Thee Stallion exchanged some heated words with NSYNC’er Justin Timberlake.

Looking at the video, we can see Megan getting her hair touched up as the boyband walks by, and something is said. She raises her finger in Justin’s face as he and Joey Fatone walk by, and as they pass, she does not smile, instead she appears ticked off. Did they just fight?

According to a source, it was actually quite friendly, despite appearances. The insider told Variety, “He said, ‘It’s so nice to meet you,’ and she said ‘No, no this don’t count, this don’t count. We gotta meet proper.’ It was very cute.”

Phewf. Crisis averted.

Nelly and Ashanti are back together and she has the bag to prove it

With all these 90s and early 2000s celebs cleaning up at the VMAs this year, it stands to reason that early 2000s power couple and chart toppers Nelly and Ashanti would have their big moment. If you remember, back in the day the “What’s Luv?” singer and the “Hot In Herre” rapper were very on-again off-again for a decade until they broke up for good in 2013. 

Now, after another decade, the pair are having their J.Lo and Ben Affleck moment by getting back together, and making it red carpet official …. In a way.

Mere hours after Nelly confirmed their relationship on The Shade Room, Ashanti walked the VMAs red carpet with a purse bearing their photo!
