Timmins, Ontario superstar Shania Twain has been opening up a lot lately, like in her Netflix special Not Just A Girl, about the hurdles she’s overcome in her life - from growing up in an abusive household, to her parents tragic death, to her meteoric rise to fame, and then to the demise of her 14-year marriage to songwriter-producer heavyweight Mutt Lange.

According to the “That Don’t Impress Me Much” songstress, Lange cheated on her with her best friend Marie-Anne Thiebaud. As her marriage to Lange dissolved in 2008, she found love and support in Marie-Anne’s husband Frederic Thiebaud. The two are now married.

Shania and Lange still share their son Eja together, who is now 21, and she says that while her and her ex husband do not speak, they co-parent like superstars.

“Mutt and I parent well together — for people who don’t talk to each other,” she told Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast.

“We’ll just text,” she continued. “We both love our son so much, so we don’t play any games like that. We have the same priority, we share spaces for him. No nonsense there.”

The iconic “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” country crooner also dishes on details about the acrimonious divorce and how it made her feel vulnerable in a way like never before.

“I was uncontrollably fragile over it,” she admits, “which I had never felt before ever because I thought for once I was stable. I really believe that I’m safe, so that really devastated me I think more than any other instability I’ve ever felt.”

“I don’t think that a lot of things that happened to me since my divorce should have been so hard on me. I should have been less naive about life’s ups and downs. Maybe I’m too much, like, ‘That’s all behind me.'”

While her and Lange don’t speak, Shania previously revealed in 2015 to Andy Cohen that she had a “total panic attack” running into her ex-friend Marie-Anne unexpectedly

“I just told her that she was a bad person,” she said at the time. “That’s all I could get out!”

Now, Shania is focussing on her handsome hubby, taking  the time to gush on the podcast about how Frederic reacted to the cheating scandal, and the support he offered as they were both reeling from the news.

“He was so thoughtful about it all,” she said during the interview. “It was not cool with him, but he was smarter about it.”

She continued to gush, “Fred’s so smart. This is one of the smartest people I know, he didn’t know either. That helped me feel better… Neither of us saw it coming … I allowed myself to trust too much … I did let my guard down too much.”

In her Netflix special Not Just A Girl, Shania also revealed that after the divorce, she suffered from Lyme disease which led to blackouts and also a loss of her legendary voice.

“My symptoms were quite scary because before I was diagnosed,” she says in the doc, “I was on stage very dizzy. I was losing my balance, I was afraid I was gonna fall off the stage. I was having these very, very, very millisecond blackouts, but regularly, every minute.”

With the condition affecting her vocal chords, she admits, “My voice was never the same again.”

However, it would seem “The Woman In Me” singer is having the last laugh after all that she’s been through. Speaking with Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast, she revealed that while Lange and Marie-Anne are still together, “everyone gets what they deserve,” she laughed.

“I got what I deserve. I got the greatest man on the planet.”
