As if the promise of stars and red carpets returning to TIFF this year isn’t enough, September is serving up even more excitement with this year’s Met Gala, scheduled for the 13th. Celebrity-stacked guest lists and speculative seating arrangements have been circulating for nearly a month now but there are two names that have just made it official by announcing that not only will they BE at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s fashion-focussed fete this year, they’ll be livestreaming it into our homes. Bless you both, Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer.

In their announcement of the first-ever livestream of the exclusive event, Vogue magazine, the force behind the annual fundraiser, has promised fashion fanatics (hi!) “unprecedented access” to the gala. Coming at us via Palmer and Glazer, the stream will be viewable on vogue.com plus all the usual social channels.

Expect to see the pair get up close and personal with confirmed guests like Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka, and Amanda Gorman (who have all been chosen to co-host the evening) plus fashion heavyweights like Tom Ford and Anna Wintour. Since this year’s event is sponsored by Instagram, there will also be a heavy influencer presence at the gala.

The real-time gala goodness was initially meant to happen last spring, but COVID cancelled that plan. Currently, the celebration has an all-new pandemic safety plan in effect.

"All attendees at The Met Gala on September 13 must provide proof of full vaccination and will also be expected to wear masks indoors except when eating or drinking," a spokesperson told People. Chic and on-trend.

The Met Gala has always been the epicentre of fashion-forward creativity and eccentricity, delivering themed lewks up and down the museum’s iconic staircase. This year, the gala will follow hot on the high heels of New York Fashion Week, which also returned as an in-person event (with safety protocols in place, naturally), and will celebrate the theme of "American Fashion."

Bring on the hand-sewn masterpieces and Palmer/Glazer comedy gold!
