Dan and Eugene Levy have officially pulled the plug on the Schitt’s Creek farewell tour, leaving plenty of obsessed Rose fans disappointed over the weekend. However, given the state of the world, there was little other choice in order to keep everyone safe.

With the Delta variant of Coronavirus on the rise (Canada reported nearly 3,000 cases last Friday, with a positivity rate of 3.6 per cent), the Levys made the tough decision to update the previously announced tour from “postponed” to “cancelled.”

“To our incredible Schitt's Creek fans, when we postponed the Schitt's Creek: The Farewell Tour, we had every hope and intention of traveling to see you later this year,” Dan and his dad shared in a joint statement on their respective social media pages.

“However, despite our best efforts to reschedule while keeping your health and safety at the forefront, we've found that state and local mandates vary too widely to do so in the near future,” they continued. “So, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all tour dates that were scheduled pre-pandemic.”

The duo then promised a full refund to anyone who had already purchased tickets, adding, “We're so sorry to be missing you, and we will continue to try to find a way to see you in the future.”

For many fans, this tour was the last chance to see the Canadian show in action. Schitt’s Creek debuted in 2015 but wrapped after six seasons when Dan felt the story had come to a logical conclusion. The final episode, “Happy Ending,” aired on April 7 of last year.

The series went on to make history at that year’s Emmys, when both Levys and their co-stars, Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy, won all four major comedy acting categories at the virtual show.

Schitt’s Creek: The Farewell Tour was first announced in March 2020. The main four actors, as well as Emily Hampshire and Noah Reid, were scheduled to appear in various U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Boston, and Washington, D.C. Windsor, Ont. appears to have been the only planned Canadian stop.

So what’s next for the crew? Well, fans can catch Murphy in some new roles, including the lead in AMC’s dark comedy Kevin Can F--- Himself and the second season of Netflix’s Russian Doll. Meanwhile, Dan Levy recently starred in the Crave quarantine series Coastal Elites (catch it here), and he also played Kristen Stewart’s onscreen bestie in the Christmas flick, Happiest Season.

Still, fans everywhere are holding out hope for an eventual Schitt’s Creek movie, which would be, to paraphrase Patrick, simply the best. However from the sounds of things people may be waiting a little while longer, despite Murphy recently revealing she’s bribing Dan Levy to do one.

“Listen, I love everybody so much. I love Annie, even for hinting at that,” Dan told Town & Country. “We had such a great time making the show and I think if the idea is right, I would love to explore what a movie could look like, but I don't have that idea yet. I'm still searching for it,” he continued.

“I'm taking some time and we'll see what happens in the next couple of years, but my fingers are tightly crossed.”
