Demi Lovato wants their fans to know that they understand that using their new pronouns can be difficult.

On Tuesday, the "Sorry Not Sorry" singer, whose pronouns are they/them, took to Instagram to share a personal message and open up about their "huge transition" during Non-Binary Awareness Week.

"If you misgender me—that's okay," they wrote. "I accidentally misgender myself sometimes! It's a huge transition to change the pronouns I've used for myself my entire life. And it's difficult to remember sometimes!"

"It's all about your intention. It's important to me that you try, but if you make a mistake, it's okay. Remember that I love you, and to keep going," Lovato wrote, adding #NonBinaryAwarenessWeek.

"As long as you keep trying to respect my truth, and as long as I remember my truth, the shift will come naturally," the 28-year-old singer added. "I'm just grateful for your effort in trying to remember what means so much to my healing process."

In their caption, Lovato said they felt the need to post the message because they find that a change in pronouns can be confusing for some people and difficult to remember for others.

Lovato also reposted a carousel of slides from activist Matt Bernstein, defining non-binary and explaining that it's not an aesthetic or trend. The singer also explained that some people who identify as non-binary don't use the pronouns "they/them."

“Non-binary people deserve the right to exist without constantly explaining, justifying, and proving that they are real to people who refuse to accept that gender as we know it is changing,” the last slide reads.

Lovato announced that they identify as non-binary in the first episode of their podcast, 4D with Demi Lovato back in May.

"I want to take this moment to share something very personal with you,” the "Cool for the Summer" singer said in a minute-and-a-half-long Instagram video. “Over the past year and a half, I've been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I've had this revelation that I identify as non-binary. With that said, I'll officially be changing my pronouns to they/them.”

“I feel this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and am still discovering," they added.

Earlier this month, Lizzo corrected a paparazzo after they misgendered Lovato.

The paparazzo referred to Lovato's team as "her team," and asked if "she should reach out" to work on a song together. That's when Lizzo jumped in to correct the mistake and said "they."

"Their team," Lizzo said. "Demi goes by they."

Lovato thanked Lizzo on social media saying, "I love you, thank you."
