This week's list of recommendations for the weekend features a new sci-fi series executive produced by a legend in the genre, a long-anticipated spin-off of a popular crime drama and a personal sports redemption film starring Ben Affleck.
A new original science fiction series executive produced by the mind that brought us cult classics such as
Alien,
Blade Runner and
Gladiator, Raised by Wolves stars Amanda Collin and Abubakar Salim as two androids tasked with raising human children. Set in the distant future on a mysterious planet known as Kepler-22b after the earth was destroyed in a great war, the remaining humans are divided by religious beliefs. The series was created by
Prisoners writer Aaron Guzikowski, with executive producer Ridley Scott leaving the producer seat to direct the first two episodes himself. You can catch those episodes as well as the third on Crave now.
After a year and a half of teasers and social media hype,
Power Book II: Ghost, is finally here. A direct sequel to the STARZ original crime drama series,
Power, and executive produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, this spin-off follows the journeys of some of the original series' most complicated characters. Joining the
Power family this go around are hip-hop heavyweights: the Queen of Hip-Hop and R&B herself, Mary J. Blige and Clifford Smith Jr, better known as Wu-Tang original member Method Man. You can stream the series premiere of
Power Book II: Ghost on Crave on Sunday, September 6.
A personal and relatable story for Ben Affleck,
The Way Back sees the newly reprised Batman actor play high school basketball coach Jack Cunningham. The former local basketball phenom, divorcee and alcoholic reluctantly accepts a job at his alma mater, sparking his long road to redemption. Stripping down his charisma and playing a more broken character than we are used to from Affleck, the film draws on parallels from Ben's own life—particularly his battle with alcoholism. The film also stars Al Madrigal, Michaela Watkins and Janina Gavankar, and is directed by Gavin O'Connor, who has worked with Affleck in the past on
The Accountant. You can stream
The Way Back on Crave today.
