Start your weekend with Hugh Jackman's delicious role as a beloved superintendent embroiled in a real-life embezzlement scandal, settle into return of a critically-acclaimed drama series and discover coming-of age show Betty about girls who love to skateboard.Bad EducationHugh Jackman delivers a career-high performance in the new HBO film everybody is talking about, Bad Education. Based on a true story, the film follows the events behind the largest public-school embezzlement in American history and at the centre of the scandal is Dr. Francis A. Tassone, played by Jackman, a beloved superintendent who's obsessed with taking his school to the top. Joining Jackman is the always-excellent Allison Janney, Ray Romano and Geraldine Viswanathan, one of TIFF's 2019 Rising Stars, who all shine onscreen. The fifth season kicks off with slimy New York hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) going up against his toughest opponent yet all while continuing his epic game of cat and mouse with self-righteous U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhodes (Paul Giamatti). The on-screen rivalry is quickly becoming legendary as the show continues to peel back the layers on both of their characters, but superb performances in this series is not limited to them with Maggie Siff, Asia Kate Dillon and David Costabile also standing out. Hidden Gem: BettyFrom Sex & the City to Girls to Insecure, HBO has always been a home for powerful, culture-defining series about real women and continuing that trend is its latest series, Betty. Set in New York, the show follows a group of diverse young woman navigating their lives through the predominantly male world of skateboarding. The series is a spin-off from the critically-acclaimed 2018’s teen drama Skate Kitchen and features most of the film’s original cast. The film was actually inspired by a real-life group of female skaters in NYC who call themselves, you guessed it, Skate Kitchen. In both the film and the new series, members of the real-life crew play fictionalized versions of themselves.
