The newest list of recommendations for the weekend features a hilarious sports comedy, a dark alternative history drama and a touching music documentary.BrockmireThe sports comedy series Brockmire is back for its fourth and final season and if you’re a baseball fan, or just flat-out miss sports in the current social-distancing world, this series is a must-watch. Hank Azaria, the voice behind beloved Simpsons characters and a solid comedic player, stars as Jim Brockmire, a legendary baseball announcer making a comeback after a very public on-air meltdown. Now back in the league’s good graces, this season jumps 10 years into the future, where Brockmire is now the commissioner of baseball. Filled with loads of cheeky cartoon-like humour, the series is an enjoyable, very adult watch. Stream the first three seasons of Brockmire on Crave now, with new episodes dropping every Thursday.
The Plot Against AmericaFrom the creators of the critically-acclaimed crime drama The Wire comes The Plot Against America, a dark historic drama set in a dystopian alternate timeline. Based of the Philip Roth novel of the same name, the series follows a working-class family living in Newark, New Jersey in the 1940s as they experience the rise of American President Charles Lindbergh, a populist who defeats Franklin D. Roosevelt and turns the nation toward fascism. The series stars Stranger Things’ Winona Ryder alongside Zoe Kazan and Morgan Spector. Hidden Gem: Everybody’s EverythingIf you're not familiar with underground hip-hop, you might not know the name Lil Peep and if you have, you might not know the person behind the face tattoos and colourful hair. In the surprisingly thoughtful and emotional documentary Everybody’s Everything, directors Sebastian Jones and Ramex Silyan look at the life of the person behind the persona, Gustav Elijah Åhr, and make a case for why he’s a hip-hop pioneer. Using tour footage and interviews from his friends, family and associates, the doc details his rise to fame as one of the first successful so-called "Soundcloud rappers" and the influence his punk-rock-emo-rap sound had on young hip-hop artists before a tragic drug overdose cut his life short in 2017. You can stream Everybody’s Everything on Crave today.
