At the beginning of Jimmy Kimmel’s interview with Rashida Jones on
Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday night, he says that he’s obsessed with her childhood, and we can kinda see why. As the daughter of famed producer Quincy Jones, her L.A.-based childhood in the '70s and '80s was filled with celebs. Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson were regular guests to her house; she rode the school bus with the Kardashians; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a neighbour, and Nancy Sinatra was her Brownie troop leader. It’s almost as if the Hollywood Walk of Fame was situated inside her house, and we gotta say, we’re mega-jealous.But sometimes, those celebs would rope her into performing small roles in their projects, and Jimmy managed to unearth one that is definitely for the books. In a music video for Frank Sinatra’s “
L.A. is my Lady,” which was produced by her father, and features a bevvy of '80s celebs like
Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, La Toya Jackson, Tommy Lasorda, and Erik Estrada (those are some names we haven’t heard in a while!), if you look closely you can spot a young Rashida, and it’s just... so painfully '80s.
As La Toya and Dean Martin clink martini glasses, Rashida walks down the street in a very colourful '80s outfit, while her father Quincy picks up an orange off the street that *gasp* suddenly disappears with the magic of '80s CGI!Clasping her hand over her face, she dissolved into giggles watching that blast from the past. “Yeah, it's a high or low water mark depending on how you look at it,” she shook her head, adding with a bit of sarcasm, “The special effects are just legendary. ILM [Industrial Light and Magic] got involved there. Oh my God. What a time capsule, right?”Some time capsules deserve to stay buried, but this one, the world needs to see.[video_embed id='2050895']MORE ‘80S THROWBACKS: Jane Fonda ‘80s-style exercise vid to encourage voting [/video_embed]Further obsessed with mining Rashida’s childhood for time capsules, of course Jimmy had to ask about regular house guest (and occasional King of Pop) Michael Jackson. Since her father produced the legendary
Thriller album (ever heard of it?), she had lots of stories from that era to share. “Yeah we were there when they were recording it, you know, with all those great musicians. Like every moment of it. We were at the set when they were filming the ["Thriller"] video in Griffith park.”She continued, “He was like a kid, you know, when my dad first started working with him, so he was like just happy to like hang out. He'd sometimes bring his boa constrictor or his chimp.” OMG, Rashida got to hang with Bubbles the Chimp AND Michael Jackson, while the rest of us had to beg our parents for a cat?“It wasn't like, you know, your normal family friend,” she added. No, it definitely wasn’t.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Dog can't be fooled by owner's magic trick [/video_embed]
