Since Katy Perry announced her pregnancy on American Idol (Sundays at 8/9 MT on CTV), we’ve all been aflutter with excitement for the mom-to-be and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom. Of course, it was fitting that Katy performed a bittersweet "Baby Mine" from Dumbo for her appearance on The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II. And it wouldn’t be a Katy Perry performance unless she Left-Shark’d it up a bit, this time dressing up in a life-size elephant foam costume with her teacup poodle Nugget—also dressed as an elephant—by her side.Performing from her living room, Katy reenacted the famous heart-wrenching scene from the 1941 classic where Dumbo’s mother rocks her sweet little boy to rest and dries his tears. Katy’s soft, crooning voice perfectly fits the mood as she sings about the undying love a mother has for her baby. We can only imagine her singing this song to her newborn in a few months.
Lately, the “Firework” singer has been having a field day with these goofy get-ups for her judging gig on American Idol. She recently dressed up as a big roll of toilet paper and a giant bottle of hand sanitizer, presumably to bring a little levity to the strange times in which we find ourselves. When one viewer commented that her costumes are a source of joy right now, she replied, “it helped me get my smile back.” Aww.The Dumbo costume wasn’t just for the Singalong (we love a multi-function outfit), Katy also broke it out for Sunday night’s latest episode of Idol, where the Top 11 contestants were whittled down to seven as they all sang Disney tunes and ballads. Of course, Nugget stayed in his Dumbo costume because the guy knows what the people want.[video_embed id='1954756']RELATED: The stars come together to explain the pandemic to kids in ‘Your Kids, Their Questions’[/video_embed]It was a pretty busy weekend for Katy overall since she also appeared on the Your Kids, Their Questions: A Your Morning Coronavirus Special to encourage the wee ones to stay home and hosted a Facebook livestream. She also revealed that her next album will be coming right on schedule—"we ain't gonna let no coronavirus stop us from dancing!"—and shared Orlando Bloom's sweet Mother's Day gift to her, a bouquet of wildflowers he picked himself.
