When Mindy Kaling isn’t busy secretly growing an entire human and then announcing the birth of her new baby to the world, she’s somehow finding time to pen yet another comedy that fans can’t wait to see. On Wednesday, Kaling announced her latest project and revealed the show’s impressive cast, which includes the now-famous last name Chalamet. On October 14, Kaling shared Deadline’s article announcing her new HBO Max comedy series, The Sex Lives of College Girls. Written by Kaling and Justin Noble, the series stars Amrit Kaur, Renée Rapp, Alyah Chanelle Scott, and Pauline Chalamet. If that last name looks familiar, it’s because Chalamet is the sister of Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet. The 24-year-old Chalamet has become one of the most sought-after actors since his starring role in 2017’s Call Me By Your Name, which he followed up with performances in Lady Bird, Beautiful Boy and Little Women. Chalamet stars in the upcoming remake of Dune and has been cast in the star-studded Adam McKay comedy Don’t Look Up, which also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Kid Cudi, Ariana Grande, Matthew Perry, Rob Morgan and Tomer Sisley.[video_embed id='2049950']RELATED: 'Dune' is the latest blockbuster movie to get postponed[/video_embed]As for Timothée’s big sister Pauline, the elder Chalamet has also been making her mark on Hollywood. Appearing in several short films, Chalamet made her feature film debut earlier this year in Pete Davidson’s semi-autobiographical Judd Apatow film, The King of Staten Island. In Kaling’s new series, Chalamet plays Kimberly, a strait-laced student who was the valedictorian at her Arizona suburb high school. Chalamet’s Kimberly is unprepared for the new social setting of the prestigious New England Essex College, which acts as the setting for The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Toronto native Kaur, whose credits include Kim’s Convenience, Star Trek and The D-Cut, will play sex-positive Bela, who is inexperienced in the bedroom. Rapp is best known for her role as Regina George in the Broadway adaptation of Tina Fey’s Mean Girls. The theatre actor will make her TV debut in Kaling’s new series as Leighton, the daughter of a rich Republican family and a fourth-generation legacy student at Essex College. Like Rapp, Scott is known for her work on stage. The Book of Mormon actor will also be making her television debut playing Whitney, an athlete who is the daughter of a powerful Black senator. The Sex Lives of College Girls is the latest project from Kaling, who has enjoyed a productive 2020. Taking inspiration from her own childhood, Kaling created the breakout Netflix series Never Have I Ever, which premiered earlier this year and gained raved reviews for its writing and star, Canadian actor Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. A second season of the teen dramedy has already been confirmed. On October 6, Kaling released her latest essay collection, Nothing Like I Imagined (Except for Sometimes). The actor and writer has also confirmed that along with Dan Goor (Parks and Rec, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Kaling will write the script for Legally Blonde 3. For those keeping track, Kaling has spent the past year developing and writing multiple shows, a book, and raising two kids.
