After weeks of entertaining performances The Masked Singer (Wednesdays, 8 p.m. ET on CTV) continued whittling away the competition this week when the remaining Group A competitors returned to see who would make the Super Six. Or is that “hoo?” Because as it turns out it was a double unmasking when the Snow Owls were voted out.

The Panelists Bring Their A Games

But what a battle it was leading up to that moment. At the top of the hour the Sun, Snow Owls and Popcorn came out for a group performance of Pink’s anthem “Raise Your Glass,” setting a fun tone for the night to come. That was helped along by this week’s guest judge Niecy Nash, who definitely gave Ken Jeong some competition as the comedian of the group. (“Girl, you stretched that like a piece of gum on an old shoe,” she told Jenny McCarthy at one point.) Not only was Nash spot-on with her commentary but she also had some fresh guesses, like Cyndi Lauper for Popcorn and Jewel for The Sun.Meanwhile over at Ken’s seat on the panel, it seems like he’s ready to up his own guessing game in this competition. At the beginning of the show he did a bit where he pretended to read up on pop culture because—as he confessed—people are now stopping him on the streets to tell him how bad his guesses are. To be fair his guess that Katharine McPhee is the Sun is pretty on brand with what the internet is thinking right now though, especially after her performance of “Piece of My Heart” by Janis Joplin on Wednesday night. However everyone knows that McPhee is pregnant, so perhaps another Idol graduate, like Carrie Underwood, may be the one hiding under that golden costume? Or perhaps the internet’s other guess, LeAnn Rimes is the one beaming her light out from under that costume. Only time will tell, since Sun wasn’t just safe at the end of the hour, but right now she still seems like the one to beat. As for Popcorn and Snow Owls? The judges seemed to be completely conflicted over those performers too. At first Nash put her money on Brad Paisley and his wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley as the Snow Owls, Jenny McCarthy was convinced Popcorn is Taylor Dayne, and Robin Thicke stuck with his previous guess that Amy Grant and Vince Gill are the Owls. Unfortunately for them though, none of them could compare with this season’s queen of guesses, Nicole Scherzinger.

Unmasking the Birds of Prey

Like Robin, Nicole thought the owls had to be Amy Grant and Vince Gill when she first heard them perform. But in the newly revived Smackdown, which featured the birds of prey versus complex carbohydrates (AKA Popcorn), she went in a whole new direction with her final guess: Lisa Hartman and Clint Black. The crooning couple has been together for more than two decades, and when they finally stepped out of that egg to reveal their full costumed bodies, Nicole was more sure than ever.[video_embed id='2074950']MORE TV NEWS: New cast of 'Gossip Girl' spotted filming on steps of the Met in NYC [/video_embed]Of course she was right again, that sleuth, as everyone learned when the Owls lost the Smackdown. Although it would have been hilarious if Nash’s final prediction of Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin turned out to be correct, it was indeed Lisa Hartman and Clint Black whose heads appeared where beaks once sat. Someone needs to get Nicole a medal or something, because that left-field guess is the stuff of Masked Singer legends. “When I first saw the costumes I actually cried. Because they’re so beautiful… but they’re so sweet. I couldn’t wait to get into them,” Lisa revealed when host Nick Cannon asked them what it was like being the Snow Owls. “We’re going to miss our love birds!” Jenny added from the stage before the birds launched into one last performance of Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s “The Prayer.” And with that the show has its first two official Super Six contestants, Popcorn and Sun. Next week the remaining Group B performers return to see who of Crocodile, Seahorse, Serpent and Whatchamacallit will join them.Watch The Masked Singer Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.[video_embed id='2049925']BEFORE YOU GO: 'Horse girl' from Alberta can gallop and jump just like a horse [/video_embed]
