It hasn’t even been a week, but now that we’re two episodes deep into
The Masked Singer (Wednesdays, 8 p.m. ET CTV), it’s safe to say that this season of the singing celebrity guessing game is going to be the hardest yet—by far. Because if the hand-picked panelists can’t even come close to guessing these performers’ identities, where does that leave those of us watching from home?
Jason Biggs brings home the pie
One of the reasons the guessing might be harder this season is because there’s less time between performances to sit and stew over the clues. That’s due to a format tweak where the first three episodes are dedicated to Group A, then three episodes to Group B, followed by three episodes for Group C. That could have been done because of contestant availability, filming purposes, or even because the powers-that-be are trying to throw everyone by actually having Jamie Foxx perform in another group, despite his guest-panelist appearance
in the premiere. Whatever the reason, it confused this week’s guest Jason Biggs, who thought Kangaroo was going to win this whole thing. What he didn’t know is that there were 17, and not four, remaining celebrities heading into episode two.[video_embed id='1501883']RELATED: Ken Jeong showed us his infamous dance moves and it was the best[/video_embed]And it looks like this season’s other major change (besides head graphic cut-outs over the performers as the panelists guess their identities), is those guest panelists. Their identities are kept a secret until their own masks (or in Biggs’ case, pie) is taken off, which is a fun new twist that adds to the excitement. If you’re a celeb who loves the show but can’t actually participate on the reg, it’s kind of a cool way to come on board while also promoting your own gig. (Now who wants to take an under-over on when Will Arnett, host of the heavily promoted
Lego Masters is coming aboard?)
One last word about Biggs—that guy is never living
American Pie down. Even though he’s on a new series,
Outmatched and has worked steadily in the 20-plus years since the movie came out, the panelists and host Nick Cannon made sure they sliced up lots of wholesome pie references throughout the night. Biggs was not impressed, either, but you could tell he was trying to be a good sport.
Those killer performances
So let’s talk about those five remaining Group A contestants: Turtle, Llama, Kangaroo, Miss Monster and White Tiger. Kangaroo and Turtle killed it (again) with their vocals, while Miss Monster gave the panelists “legend” vibes with her performance of “Fancy” by Bobbie Gentry. And then there were Llama and White Tiger. The latter did “Good Vibrations,” proving that while he has a ton of personality (and maybe the hots for panelist Nicole Scherzinger), he’s not the strongest singer of this group. And as for Llama? He kicked off the night with a decent performance of Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual” with all four of those legs, but it wasn’t memorable enough to earn him a spot with the live audience. They decided to shear the animal by giving him the least amount of votes, which meant the panelists had to put in their final guesses before the unmasking. Obviously they were all spit-balling with their predictions (Woody Harrelson, Johnny Knoxville, Joel McHale, Adam Carolla and Kelsey Grammer), because the Llama turned out to be TV legend Drew Carey.
The Price is Right host revealed that he likes having a good time and “a lot of laughs,” so doing the show was a natural fit. His good-spirited nature definitely translated, especially as he sang his send-off song one last time and laughed because he also forgot the words. Nicely done Drew, nicely done.So now that Carey and
Lil Wayne have been unmasked, where does that leave the rest of Group A? Here are the Internet’s top guesses heading into next week:Kangaroo: Jordyn WoodsTurtle: Jesse McCartneyMiss Monster: Chaka KhanWhite Tiger: GronkThe world will find out if at least one of those is right next week when the competition is narrowed down to three.
