Our first look at Season 3 of Westworld has arrived and it appears that the budget for the HBO series has reached an all-time high. The Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy sci-fi drama returns with the hosts finally making their way out of the Westworld park and into the real world, where they all have plans for destruction and domination. The robots have risen up and they are not happy. The new trailer shows the return of many Westworld originals, including Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores, Thandie Newton as Maeve, Tessa Thompson as Charlotte Hale, Ed Harris as William/The Man In Black, Luke Hemsworth as Ashley Stubbs and Jeffrey Wright as Bernard. Having finally escaped the park, each human and host are on mission and ready to leave a trail of dead bodies in their wake.
Wood’s Dolores gets the most screen time in the new trailer, with her AI character teaming up with newcomer Aaron Paul. The Breaking Bad star plays Caleb, a construction worker dedicated to helping Dolores with her rebellion. Lena Waithe can also be seen in the trailer as a character who possibly plays a guard for Caleb. The lowly worker is inspired by Dolores, who lets him in on the secret that Big Brother is watching him and directing his life. Dolores makes the stakes of their mission clear to Caleb, telling the human that if their plan goes sideways, they can still do things "the old-fashioned way: We kill everyone." Hell hath no fury like an AI woman scorned.Hemsworth and Wright are working together once again, although it’s unclear from this trailer whether they’re on Team Dolores or Team Stop Dolores. Wright’s Bernard is also shown in front of the Westworld church, although it’s unclear whether he’s back in the park or simply having a flashback.Harris returns as William aka The Man In Black aka someone who looks as though they’re spending much of Season 3 being tortured, with a smug Dolores telling her one-time lover, one-time torturer “Welcome to the end of the game.” Harris’ William pledges to “save the f**king world" in the trailer, but his cell may make that a bit difficult.Thompson’s Charlotte Hale also appears to be in a difficult position in Season 3, spending most of the trailer interacting with robots. That’s nothing new in Westworld, but this time around they look like Transformers, not like human beings. As for Golden Globe winner Thandie Newton, her Maeve appears to be under the leadership of newcomer Vincent Cassel. Westworld’s newest villain instructs Maeve to hunt down Dolores and kill her, with the trailer leaving off on the climactic moment that shows the two women preparing to face off. "The old gods are coming, and they are very angry," says Dolores in the final scene. Let the goosebumps ensue. The new trailer also includes a sneak peek at a futuristic Nazi theme park and continues in Westworld’s tradition of turning rock and pop songs into melancholy string arrangements, this time paying homage to Guns N’ Roses 1987 hit “Sweet Child Of Mine.” Haunting and catchy!Season 3 of Westworld premieres on Sunday, March 15.
