Has there ever been a season of The Amazing Race (Wednesdays, 7 p.m. ET on CTV) that has been so full of alliances? Not in recent memory. Ever since those salt mines in Columbia Will & James, Chee & Hung, Riley & Maddison, Aparna & Eswar and Gary & DeAngelo have had one another’s backs hardcore, even if it means sacrificing their own wins along the way. That all started to unravel in the latest back-to-back episodes though in the wake of a $15,000 prize and a game-changing Yield.

Raising the Stakes in Berlin

The night started strong for the fab five as the remaining seven teams took the train from Paris to Berlin. There they took in some famous sites (the Berlin Wall), had a chance to jam out to some tunes in a Teledisko, partook in a little chicken dancing or beer yoga, and drove comical cars called Trabants, which were so lightweight but complicated to drive that the teams could easily push them but not throw them into reverse.Right away Eswar & Aparna and the show’s other team of alliances, Alana & Leo and Kaylynn & Haley, got lost and had a hard time finding their bearings on the route. That gave the other four teams plenty of time to sail through the dancing stop and worry about the Road Block, which just so happened to be walking down the side of a skyscraper while also unscrambling a giant word clue on a neighbouring rooftop. Piece of cake, right? That word scramble was confusing for all of the teams, but Hung got it right away. Well, after promising DeAngelo that she would wait for him at the bottom and give him the answer, that is. The mom was true to her word and there for her alliance, but it cost her and Chee to the tune of $15,000. Because as soon as they completed the task Gary & DeAngelo took the only available taxi, leaving Chee & Hung scrambling as other teams passed them. To say Hung was angry would be an understatement, especially when the footballers came in first place and won that aforementioned cash. The skywalk wasn’t just detrimental to the fab five alliance though. When Kaylynn and Haley were the last to arrive at the challenge, Aparna and Leo refused to help them, leaving them to do the challenge more than four times before they finally asked locals for help. And even though they breezed by the chicken detour, they were well in last place by the time they arrived at the Pit Stop. As luck would have it, Berlin was another non-elimination leg, making those sisters the luckiest chickens in Germany as they got to stay in it for yet another episode.

Yielding to the Race in Kazakhstan

In the night’s second hour teams travelled to Borat’s home country, and right away it was obvious that things between all of these besties were about to crack. Hung was determined to no longer help her fellow racers (a pact with herself that she quickly broke when DeAngelo needed help, again) and Will & James must have been bored because they were ready to throw some hiccups into things by finally using the Yield.First though, all of the teams had to complete some tasks at the Kazakhfilm Studio, where they could either answer questions about a live-action sequence or do their own choreographed scene. Turns out the latter task was slightly easier, and the volleyball players slipped ahead by choosing it. Hung & Chee weren’t too far behind though, and they managed to arrive at the yurt challenge first. There they had to decorate a yurt based on an example, but it was Will & James who took the lead… and the spotlight.[video_embed id='2080265']MORE TV NEWS: Will Smith and Janet Hubert reconcile for ‘Fresh Prince’ reunion [/video_embed]They managed to convince Kaylynn & Haley to break their alliance with Leo & Alana by yielding them, a shady move for sure but one that was well-timed considering how high-and-dry Leo had left the sisters in Berlin. Reluctantly the sisters agreed to do it, and it turned out to be the best thing for them. This is a race, after all. So while Will & James landed in first place (winning a trip to Vegas in the process), Kaylynn and Haley squeaked by in sixth. That left Leo and Alana in last place, and they were indeed eliminated. With that, it’s the fab five and the blonde realtors left in this thing. And while it would be nice for the alliances to last a while longer, Kaylynn & Haley have consistently been at the back of the pack. It would make sense for the other teams to want to keep them around until closer to the finale to give themselves a better shot, while teaming up to take a stronger team out. Then again, never in the history of this race have teams been so tight with each other. Whoever breaks first will inevitably be named the bad guys.Find out what happens next in another double dose of episodes when The Amazing Race returns to CTV at 8 and 9 p.m. ET next week.[video_embed id='2079125']BEFORE YOU GO: Rockefeller Christmas tree getting mixed reaction [/video_embed]
