It’s official — the (ever-growing and ever-epic) Marvel family is adopting a new member. Tatiana Maslany, who is known for her work on Orphan Black, has been revealed as the choice to play the lead character in Marvel’s upcoming She-Hulk series. As the story goes, Jennifer Walters (who will be played by Maslany) is not only a lawyer, but also Bruce Banner’s cousin who, in case you missed it, just so happens to be the Hulk. This might not have been such a complicated family dynamic, if Walters didn’t require a blood transfusion from her part-time superhero cousin. During the procedure, Walters seemingly inherits Banner’s Hulk powers — only, unlike her cousin, she’s able to retain her personality and intelligence when she "Hulks out." And so, we meet (and come to love) She-Hulk, the last major character to be co-created by Stan Lee. The series is set to air on Disney+ and is reportedly one of several Marvel series in the works (the devil works hard, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe works harder). Upcoming projects include Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision later this year, and a Loki stand-alone series early next year (pending COVID-19 related delays). Hawkeye, Ms.Marvel, and Moon Knight are also being reimagined as live-action shows in the near future.[video_embed id='1491870']THROWBACK: Tatiana Maslany at the 2018 Emmys[/video_embed]Maslany’s role as Sarah Manning on Orphan Black from 2013-2017 made her a fan-favourite in the sci-fi TV realm. The actress won an Emmy for the role in 2016, scoring two more nominations and a Golden Globe nod during the show’s run. More recently, she starred opposite Matthew Rhys in the HBO drama Perry Mason (streaming on Crave). In the meantime, the Marvel Universe (both fans and cast members) seem to be welcoming Maslany with open arms. In Mark Ruffalo's case, that makes for a pretty big (some might say Hulk-like) embrace. Her Orphan Black family also took to the platform to share their congratulations. To fans’ delight, Maslany isn't the only She-Hulk casting news to rejoice. Kat Coirco, known throughout the industry as an "in-demand pilot and episodic director" with shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia under her belt, has signed on to direct several episodes, including the pilot. Rick and Morty writer Jessica Gao has also been brought onto the project to lead the writers room while serving as executive producer and showrunner.
