Canadian actor Tatiana Maslany shuttered the dreams of fans everywhere this week when she revealed that she’s actually not playing She-Hulk for Marvel after all. In fact, according to a new interview, that was never even a thing.Despite reports last month that the
Orphan Black Emmy-winner had been cast as the character (prompting Hulk portrayer Mark Ruffalo to
send out congratulations), Maslany
revealed to The Sudbury Star that she never actually signed up to play She-Hulk. Ever. “That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand,” she said.“I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately,” she continued. “I don’t know how these things get – I don’t know, I don’t know. You know better; I have no idea.”[video_embed id='2039854']RELATED: The first trailer for Marvel’s ‘WandaVision’ is here[/video_embed]Sounds like this was just a case of people hoping it could be true. Even Simu Liu, AKA the Canadian
Kim’s Convenience actor who has been hired to star in
Shang-Chi as the
MCU’s first Chinese superhero, was
pumped to hear about the casting. But if you look back,
Deadline, which was one of the first sources to report the news, never said that Maslany had been confirmed for the role—only that she was the
choice to play the lead in the upcoming Disney+ series. But then
Variety confirmed the news,
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news… and, well, you get the picture. So now it sounds like the part is back up for grabs, in case anyone out there has ever dreamed of becoming Mark Ruffalo’s on-screen cousin. The
She-Hulk series revolves around Jennifer Walters, a lawyer and the cousin of Bruce Banner (AKA the Hulk). In the comics she gains her superpowers following an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, but when she hulks out she doesn’t get all angry and lose her smarts and personality—unlike her cuz. The show is just one of several Marvel series planned to air on the new(ish) Disney+ streaming service, which also recently revealed the
strange new trailer for WandaVision.Meanwhile most fans recognize Regina-born Maslany from her critically acclaimed work on the sci-fi Bell Media series
Orphan Black, where she played a group of clones fighting for survival. The show earned rave reviews and landed Maslany a Critics Choice Award, a Television Critics Association Award, and a lead actress Emmy win in 2016 (she was nominated three times over the show’s five seasons).Since then the 35-year-old has starred in a handful of indie films and appeared in HBO’s updated
Perry Mason series alongside Matthew Rhys. Before Maslany shot to fame she was a big player in the Canadian TV industry, nabbing recurring roles in a variety of shows including
Heartland,
Instant Star, and
Being Erica.[video_embed id='2046529']RELATED: Marvel casts Iman Vellani to star in 'Ms. Marvel' on Disney Plus[/video_embed]
