Over the past decade, we’ve witnessed a steady emergence of films and TV shows that blend two seemingly unlikely genres — horror and comedy. These projects expertly blur the lines between terror and biting, often satirical comedy, delighting audience members with stand-out works like What We Do in the Shadows, The Final Girls, and Santa Clarita Diet. Fortunately for TV lovers everywhere, Showtime is adding another potential binge-worthy masterpiece to our list.On Tuesday, Showtime confirmed the development of a new, half-hour series titled The Auteur, based on the graphic novel of the same name. The best part? The series is set to star Jude Law, under the skilled direction of Taika Waititi, who will also co-write. The graphic novel by Rick Spears, with art by James Callahan and Luigi Anderson, tells the twisted tale of fictionalized film producer Nathan T. Rex. Desperate for redemption after his latest project bombs, Rex accidentally puts his crew in the cross-hairs of a serial killer while working on his next big movie. Doesn’t quite sound like your average day on set, now does it?Fresh off his Academy Award win for Best Adapted Screenplay, Waititi sounds like the perfect person to lift The Auteur from the page to the screen. He's also proven himself as a master of imagination, after 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, and with horror-comedies What We Do in the Shadows and Wellington Paranormal under his belt. Peter Warren, who wrote the 2016 comedy-thriller Ghost Team, is also on board to co-write and will serve as executive producer alongside Waititi and Law.[video_embed id='1896639']RELATED: Taika Waititi had the best poses on the Oscars red carpet[/video_embed]Law is also on a career high right now, starring in HBO’s The New Pope as he prepares to return to his roles in the Sherlock Holmes and Fantastic Beasts threequels. As it stands, Showtime has ordered multiple scripts of The Auteur, so we can only hope it will lead to a full-fledged series. While we wait for more details to surface, fans can catch up on The Young Pope and The New Pope on Crave, while Waititi is set to star alongside Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming action-comedy Free Guy this summer.[video_embed id='1875132']RELATED: Jude Law learned a surprising lesson while filming 'The New Pope'[/video_embed]
