After 15 years, more than 300 episodes, and many, many demonic storylines for hunters everywhere to dig into, Dean and Sam Winchester have filmed their final moments on Supernatural. The show officially wrapped in Vancouver on September 10, marking the end of an era for fans, the network, and of course everyone who worked on this series. To celebrate the emotional occasion, leading men Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles took to social media to share their feels with fans, as did several co-stars, producers, and creator Eric Kripke. Fans everywhere were breaking out the tissues as a result, despite the fact that there are still seven episodes left to actually air.“Well, here goes...I write this as I head to my last day of #Supernatural,” shared Padalecki on Instagram alongside a photo of himself in the car giving a thumbs up. “My last day with #SamWinchester. Obviously, my head is spinning and my emotions are stratospheric, but there’s still a bit of time left on the clock. Thank y’all SO MUCH for the incredible amount of love and support that’s been headed our way, in these final hours. It’s definitely been felt. I’ll check in soon, but, for now, #WeHaveWorkToDo.”
Ackles was equally emotional in his own Instagram post as he thanked fans for the support, although his photos are ones that hit even harder since they all include the show’s famous Impala, which has become a character in its own right.“Woke up at 6am this morning. That alarm went off with a heavy tone. Today is the final day of a 15 year journey,” he wrote. “One that has changed my life forever. To those I have worked with on this journey and to those who have watched and supported...you will never understand my great appreciation for you. ‘Thank you’ doesn’t cover it. There just aren’t words. I’m so grateful for these memories that I will carry with me forever. What a ride it has been. And what a run. #spnfamilyforever here are a few shots from our final days...including today. I’ll try and send more later, but in true SPN form...we are in the middle of “nowhere” and have zero service. Go figure. Stay tuned.”

Misha Collins (who plays Castiel), Jim Beaver (who recurred as Bobby Singer), Kripke, former showrunner Sera Gamble, Ackles’ wife Danneel Ackles, and an impressive number of others also shared their farewells online, proving not only how much love there was on set, but how much these guys all considered each other family.

You may be shooting your last day...helping to bring Supernatural across the finish line and into television history, but this is not... the End. Supernatural is a show about love, and the love that has been created within the story is eternal. Love between brothers, love between friends, love between co-stars...love for the crew, love for the fans, and love for each other. Thank you to everyone who is a part of this community and those who continue to share their love and talents with us all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ? @arachnobite (Set Dec) and @moira_costumes (Costumes) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “For there'll be peace when you are done. Supernatural is the longest-running series on The CW. It kicked off in 2005 and quickly amassed an obsessive following that not only stuck with the brothers for 15 years, but have also written mounds of fan fiction, dedicated years to impressive Tumblr accounts, and passionately tuned in as the show has gone to heaven and hell and back again. For its part, The CW has always remained invested in the show as well. Every six months at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in California, reporters would ask president Mark Pedowitz how long he envisioned the show lasting. He would always reply with a form of, “For as long as the guys want to continue making it.” At the past few tours the question itself became something of a joke, with Pedowitz letting the critics answer that inevitable question for him.In March 2019 Ackles, Padalecki and Collins announced in a video that the 20-episode, 15th season would indeed be the show’s last. “We just told the crew that though we’re very, very excited about moving into our 15th season, it will be our last,” Ackles revealed. “This family is not going anywhere even though the show will come to an end,” Collins added. The series finale was originally supposed to air in May, but then the coronavirus pandemic shut down productions across the globe and filming on the last two episodes halted. During that time the show went on a break because post-production was also impossible. Then, the action resumed in mid-August and the crew got back to work. Fans can now expect the seven final episodes to kick off on October 8 and culminate on November 19 with an hourlong series finale that will air after a retrospective special. At its final TCA tour in the summer of 2019, the guys spoke openly about avoiding the emotions that came with knowing they were heading into their final hunt. “I think we’re all trying to stick to the game plan, which is the same plan that’s got us here,” Ackles said. “I think if we allow ourselves the weight of what this season is to kind of creep into our daily work schedule, those days are going to get really long…. I’m just hoping to stave off the emotion until at least Episode 19, 18, somewhere in there. And then who knows what’s going to happen? It’s going to be a big shift in a lot of our lives. A big shift.”The final season of Supernatural will premiere exclusively on CTV SciFi in Canada this fall and stream on CTV.ca and the CTV app.[video_embed id='1589179']Before you go: Lisa Berry talks 'Supernatural'[/video_embed]
