Stevie Nicks would totally love some “Watermelon Sugar.” Or more specifically for the song’s performer, Harry Styles, to be involved in her upcoming TV series,
Rhiannon. The Fleetwood Mac member revealed that bit of dream casting in a recent interview, throwing One Direction fans into a tizzy. In a
chat with The Los Angeles Times, Nicks opened up about adapting her 1975 Fleetwood Mac hit “Rhiannon” into a TV series based on the mythological Celtic deity. She also confirmed that she now has studio backing on the project, which she purchased the rights to after a fan sent her Evangeline Walton’s book adaptations of the story. According to the interview, Nicks had no idea just how deep the folklore behind that name went when she originally wrote the song, but as she delved deeper she knew she had a miniseries on her hands.[video_embed id='1956616']RELATED: A candle that smells like Harry Styles is sold out everywhere[/video_embed]Nicks also revealed that she has zero interest in actually starring in the series, despite making an cameo in the 2014 “Coven” season of
American Horror Story. But Styles is “definitely in the running” in terms of potential dream casting. “I’m going, ‘Harry, you cannot age one day. You have to stay exactly as you are,’” she told the publication. “I’ve already sold him on it.”Of course in terms of getting him involved, it doesn’t hurt that Styles and Nicks already have an established friendship (he did help
induct her into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, after all). According to the article, when Styles finished his latest album,
Fine Line, he invited Nicks and five of her friends to his home to listen to it. According to Nicks, they sat in the living room and listened to the whole thing three times through, chatting it over until sunset. Then there was the time that Styles got everyone’s attention when he called Nicks up during a performance at the Troubador in Los Angeles
to sing “Landslide” (as well as a few other songs) with him.It was “a huge thrill, because he made a choice to be a rock ‘n’ roll star and not a pop star,” Nicks said of that “Landslide” performance. “That was a risk for a guy from a boy band. That was like Fleetwood Mac doing ‘Tusk’ after ‘Rumours.’ I was very proud of him.”No word on who Styles would play in
Rhiannon (perhaps Pwyll, the prince of Dyfed?) especially since the project is still in the very early stages. At this point there is no script and no actors attached, but Nicks has ten songs that she’s never released set aside specifically for the show. Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Nicks has spoken so highly of Styles and his music. In an interview earlier this year with
Rolling Stone, Nicks revealed that
Fine Line became one of her go-tos during quarantine.“Harry is recounting a lot of experiences that I had in my own life, beautifully. And making me remember stuff, and bringing back memories that I really didn’t love and memories that I did love,”
she said. “For me to hear a record made by somebody in his mid-20s that says a lot of things that I haven’t gotten around to saying yet blows my mind.”Here’s hoping he blows everyone’s minds again, this time with his acting skills when he inevitably signs up for the mini.[video_embed id='-1']Before you go: Baby girl laughs at her dad's dance moves[/video_embed]
