It’s all there in the title – the show is supposed to be “live” in front of an audience in the hallowed studio 8H, but with stay-at-home orders in place, and New York City (where the show is filmed) particularly hit hard by the pandemic, Lorne Michaels' sketch and skit juggernaut has had to roll with the punches and switch to an at-home format. The first at-home episode of the season started off with a bang – a freshly-recovered Tom Hanks hosted the show (from his home) and the cast, including Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Pete Davidson, made good use of Zoom and gaming jokes by filming entire skits via video-chat. The show quickly switched from the live-and-direct model it has used for 45 years to a previously-recorded format. The second filmed-at-home episode surprised even longtime SNL fans with a cameo by Brad Pitt as Dr. Anthony Fauci, and longtime SNL superstar Adam Sandler provided some much needed comic relief. There is no word yet as to what this means for the future of the live comedy sketch show, but we don’t want to live in a world without SNL in it.[video_embed id='1909384']Before you go: Pete Davidson says he’s outgrown SNL[/video_embed]Season Finale this Saturday ‼️ #SNLAtHome pic.twitter.com/CFTQzqBX8y
