Few TV series have ever created the perfect pilot episode, and they say hindsight is 20/20, so maybe that explains Ryan Murphy's recent craving to revisit his Golden Globe award winning series
Glee.Murphy, the man behind (both incredibly terrifying and incredibly uplifting) critically acclaimed shows like
American Horror Story, and
Pose, took to
Instagram Friday to share exactly how he would re-shoot the pilot episode of his musical comedy series, 5 years after the show he co-created went off the air.Harkening back to the year
Glee premiered, Ryan writes, “Imagine it's 2009, and I lived in a world where I knew Lea Michele, Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein (Ben and Beanie, I believe, were in high school then...and I think they dressed up as Glee characters once for Halloween?)”.Ben Platt’s inclusion here should come as no surprise — Murphy loves to ‘keep it in the family’ when it comes to his projects and is known for leveraging the talents of familiar faces across more than one of his stable of shows. Currently, Platt is appearing in Ryan's quirky political satire,
The Politician.[video_embed id='1948023'][/video_embed]Continuing to walk us through his vision in rather detailed fashion, he says, “If I had access to that talent, here's the new pilot: Lea and Ben are frenemies who fight for the heart and soul of Glee Club. Ben is also on the football team, and pretty much sleeps with the entire school and is the heartthrob of McKinley. Beanie is their mutual best friend, and torn. Suddenly, Beanie joins forces with Sue Sylvester, joins Glee Club and becomes the main soloist and the ruthless star of the club. Lea and Ben have to then join forces to dethrone her. I WANT TO SHOOT THIS DO OVER PILOT. Maybe I will?”And the Gleeks (
Glee's hard-core fans) have mixed opinions.
Granted, Murphy has no shortage of projects on the go right now, with the recent
announcement of
American Horror Stories, season 2 of
The Politician set to premiere June 19th and
The Prom coming to Netflix later this year. But where there is a will, there’s a way, right?
Oh, and did we mention Lea Michele says she's in? Kerry Washington also chimed in the comments section of Ryan's post writing, “Uhm. Can I be a teacher?” — Uhm, yes Kerry, you can be whatever you want. Please join this hypothetical ensemble of our dreams.John Stamos, who appeared in four episodes of the series as dentist (and Emma's ex-husband) Carl Howell, even chimed in by commenting, "Carl?"In the meantime though, fans can get their Ben Platt fix from his new Netflix concert
special,
Ben Platt: Live From Radio City, and keep their eyes peeled on Lea Michele’s Instagram for baby bump updates.[video_embed id='5513128991001']RELATED: Chris Colfer on bringing his book series to the big screen.[/video_embed]
