This holiday season, it’s easy to think that the only flirty dancing around is between Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen in
White Christmas. And those two totally had it right when they sang, "The best things happen while you’re dancing," because "dancing soon becomes romancing." Dang, Danny, are you an associate producer on
Flirty Dancing, because that describes the show perfectly. And not only is the chemistry and romance off the charts on this cross between
The Bachelor and
So You Think You Can Dance, it’s sending viewers into a tail spin. You might remember
the recent viral video from the original British version of show where two men dance through the Tate Britain. The video has has millions of views and hundreds upon hundreds of comments consisting of just heart-emojis and “awwwwwws.” Now the American version, hosted by dancer and
Step Up actress Jenna Dewan, has hit our TV screens, but it comes with a twist. In the original version, two romantics looking for love are taught a dance routine separately, and on their first date, they have to perform the routine together. No words, no awkward chit chats, no ordering drinks and wondering who is going to foot the bill. Just dancing, chemistry, hip-shaking and gazing into each other’s eyes. The American version ups the ante by having our main single pair up with not one, but two prospective love interests and do two (!) different routines. Two opportunities for hearts (and feet) aflutter bu only one will be chosen.Dancing and romancing are delightful in and of themselves, but could there
be a more perfect choice of host for this show? Jenna is not only a fab dancer, she met her husband of nine years, Channing Tatum, on the dancefloor. Sure, the couple has parted ways since then, but their love story (which, let's not forget, resulted in their daughter Everly) gives us hope for anyone who finds themselves tangoing, foxtrotting and sashaying around on
Flirty Dancing.
The first hopeful single with his heart and his toes on the line was Octavius, a teacher with a heart of gold and the soul of a teddy bear, who danced with two prospective love interests, Megan and Mary-Marie (so nice, they named her twice!). His daytime dance with Megan in a water fountain was sexy, light and airy, whilst his evening two-step with Mary-Marie was sultry and suave. In the end, Octavius decided Megan’s lightness of foot was more to his taste; she was so happy, she welled up. Girl, same. Mary-Marie held her head high and walked away knowing she’s still a tango champion for some other lucky chap, but that doesn’t mean viewers weren’t shocked, *SHOCKED*, by the choice.“Octavius, you had one choice and you failed!” screamed
one viewer on Twitter. It seems
that most of Twitter was in agreement, as users on the site felt that not only was
his chemistry with Mary-Marie stronger, but
she held herself
with greater dignity. Wow, don’t mess with Dancing Twitter. No matter what you think of the dancers or their choices, what’s undeniable is the all-consuming, sweeping romance of the show that permeated every scene. We need this kind of romance in our lives. Are they casting for season two yet?Watch
