We finally have our finale to
The Bachelor and it was Bach-A-LOT. First, we get a love-triumphant final rose ceremony (we’ll get to it), and then, the "After the Final Rose" show (henceforth known as AFR) where, as the saying goes, the fit hit the shan. All your favourite season 24
Bachelor personalities where there: Pete, Hannah Ann, Madison, Kelley (after last week's mysterious absence) and Pete’s mom Barb (who we also got to see react to the whole thing in real-time thanks to what Bachelor Nation has lovingly dubbed the Barb cam). The only no-show was our emotional support cow, Ashley P (rude). All season, host Chris Harrison has been calling this the most explosive and dramatic season finale they’ve ever had. He wasn’t kidding. First, Peter chooses Hannah Ann, but is she coming to the final rose ceremony? Wait for it... there she is! Now, they’re engaged! Confetti and champagne galore! Pete’s mom Barb is so overwhelmed with joy, she bawls like she’s on a telenovela and calls Hannah Ann her “daughter.” Neat. Looks like she got
exactly what she wanted.
Hannah's Not Having It
A month later, everyone’s like, nope, sorry, nevermind, we’re dunzo. Turns out, Pete just couldn't get Madi out of his head. Oops. Hannah Ann claps back at Pete HARD during
the breakup and, wooo child, that was the character development we never saw coming. All the while, Barb-cam is in the corner brooding and rolling her eyes (and we are LIVING for it). Without missing a beat, a meddling Chris Harrison flies to fetch Madison from her hometown, and facilitates a meeting where Pete and Madison get back together! Got it? Good, us neither.
Here's the thing: Hannah Ann wasn't taking this whole thing lying down. After getting dunked on all season, she rose in the eyes of Bachelor Nation by calling Pete out on how poorly he handled... pretty much everything. When he proposed, he didn’t tell her the full details of why Madi left and had Hannah Ann thinking she was the only one he loved. But a month after their engagement, when it became obvious that he was still in love with Madi and had made a mistake, our girl Hannah Ann
SHOWED UP and called out his
emotionally-stunted and
immature nonsense. When he said "sorry," she interjected, “For not being man enough to follow through with your words? For not being true your words? Not being true to your feelings? Is that what you’re sorry for?”[video_embed id='1918977']RELATED: Bachelor Peter’s mom takes over Part 1 of the finale[/video_embed]She went on, “Oh, torn and conflicted Peter! I stood by your side, and you took the most precious moment I could ever imagine away from me, because you selfishly just did not want me to walk away... I can’t even look at you anymore! I need someone who is going to be true to their words, not torn and conflicted 90% of the time.” She then gave back the engagement ring and said, “I’ve been my own rock throughout this.”
When Hannah Ann sat next to wimpy, sad, and lifeless Peter during AFR,
she said straight to his face, “If you want to be with a woman, you need to become a real man.” We know the next
Bachelorette has already been chosen, but in a couple years, this girl will slay.
Barb v. Madi
During the AFR show, all eyes were on Barb who, as we pointed out
yesterday, has become the villain no one saw coming. Those manipulative
tears. That overbearing presence. Sure she loves her son, but she is literally the
mother-in-law of everyone’s nightmares.
Viewers obviously couldn’t get enough of
Barb cam, what with her
stone-faced sneer throughout every interaction. There’s Barb
clapping when her
own son acts the fool. There’s Barb
rolling her eyes when Madi comes on screen. There’s Barb basically
telling her own husband what to say when he’s asked for his thoughts. Barb looked like she was *this close* to asking to speak to a manager.
After the Hannah Ann drama transpired, Madi joined Pete on stage to talk about how they’re together, taking things slow and hoping to move forward together. Plus, you know, they’re in love. Barb should be happy her son is in love, yes? Nope. Barb was having none of it and didn't mince words when she said, “We want the best for him and I have to tell you, [they’re] completely two different people. One who is willing to compromise, the other one has not. And to me, you need both.”But Madi, who throughout this entire process, never lost her cool, continued her level-headed approach but had to respond: “I disagree. I think this isn’t just Peter’s journey. When you sign up to come on a show like this, you are looking for love, too. This wasn’t just Peter looking for his wife... this isn’t Peter choosing me, this is me choosing Peter.” True.Barb and her Barb cam were not having it, though, telling Harrison of her son, “He’s going to have to fail to succeed.”Oh boy. This was not the finale anyone was expecting but we wouldn't trade it for the world.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Elaborate ‘Sleeping Beauty’ proposal will tug at your heartstrings[/video_embed]
