Well that didn’t take long. Just two days after Peter Weber called off his engagement to Hannah Ann Sluss in the drama-filled finale of The Bachelor to explore his feelings with runner-up Madison Prewett, he and Madison have announced they won’t date after all. Oh the fast-pace of reality television.Weber broke the news to Bachelor Nation on March 12, taking to Instagram to spill the tea on what had to be a kind of embarrassing conclusion to an even more embarrassing situation when he chose Madi on live TV, causing his mother Barb to lash out from the audience like it was an awkward Thanksgiving dinner.[video_embed id='1919347']RELATED: All eyes were on the Barb cam during ‘The Bachelor’ finale[/video_embed]“Madi and I have mutually decided not to pursue our relationship any further. Believe me this was not easy for either of us to be ok with, but after a lot of honest conversations, we have agreed that this is what makes most sense for the two of us. The love and respect I have for Madi will continue to endure,” he wrote. “Hannah Ann, you set an example for women everywhere a couple nights ago. You are such a strong, confident woman and you deserve all the love in the world. I accept full responsibility for my mistakes in our relationship and wish you only the best.”

I want to start by acknowledging the incredible group of women that I had the privilege of getting to know this season. Thank you for coming on this journey with me. I learned so many lessons from all of you that I will carry with me. Madi, thank you for your patience and unconditional love. You’re the epitome of a woman who carries herself with grace, stands by what she believes in, and loves whole heartedly. That love is something I feel so grateful to have felt and will take a piece of that with me always going forward. Madi and I have mutually decided to not pursue our relationship any further. Believe me this was not easy for either of us to be ok with, but after a lot of honest conversations, we have agreed that this is what makes most sense for the two of us. The love and respect I have for Madi will continue to endure. Hannah Ann, you set an example for women everywhere a couple nights ago. You are such a strong, confident woman and you deserve all the love in the world. I accept full responsibility for my mistakes in our relationship and wish you only the best. This has been an emotional experience and I am so grateful for the outreach of support that I have received from friends, family, and Bachelor Nation in the last few days. Thank you to all of you! This is just a another chapter in my story. One I will never forget and one I will always cherish ❤️

Madison also updated her fans on the whole situation, taking to Instagram to share some thoughts about her time on the show and how she’s thankful for the experience no matter what. “So incredibly thankful for this amazing journey I've had the honour of being a part of,” she wrote.“I have grown so much and am stronger than I was going in. I have learned the importance of acceptance, forgiveness, and grace. As Peter and I have decided to go our separate ways, I am confident that we will both move in the direction of our purpose and never forget that God has a plan in all things. I will always love and respect him. I am convinced our paths were meant to cross and we are both better because they did.”Well, that brings what was probably one of the most dramatic seasons ever to a perfectly dramatic conclusion, huh? Technically the pair never did say they’d date when they “recoupled” during the live show on March 10, but that they were going to take it one day at a time instead. Or, as it turned out, two days. Considering Madi walked away from it all in the taped finale because she didn’t think she and Peter would be compatible, it’s not totally surprising that this didn’t work out. Sometimes you’ve just got to go with your gut.Peter’s family has to be happy, at any rate. His mom in particular was not thrilled with her son’s final selection, and her outspokenness about it has caused plenty of controversy across the internet. (Karens everywhere have been rejoicing ever since.) “When I went for Hannah Ann, it was because she was the one who embraced me with love. She was so organic, she was just so loving towards me. And I just loved her. The next day, we met Madison, and it started out rocky...rocky road,” Barb said after the fact, pointing out the woman made them wait three hours while she decided if she even wanted to meet Peter’s family. And when she did, she didn’t offer up an apology for the delay, even though they’d flown a long way to be there. “[Peter is] going to have to fail to succeed. That's it. All his friends, all his family, everyone that knows him knows that it's not going to work.”Looks like maybe sometimes mother really does know best. Not everyone is anti-Madison, though. It seems like she’s already moving on with some fast new friends. Selena Gomez invited the Bachelor star out to a Target run and a games night on March 12, and captured the entire evening on her Instagram stories.“I hope everyone is being safe and taking good care of yourselves,” Gomez said in a video. “I know you’re probably tired of hearing it, but I just want to let you guys know that I am praying, and I’m thinking about everyone.” In the next post she showed off the Target run, explaining that they’re stocking up on games. “Madi, what game do you want?” she asked.“Umm, honestly anything! Everything looks great,” Prewett responded. Naturally, her team went on to win the night, but everyone can pretty much agree that Prewett has won the internet. Because what better way to bounce back from a breakup and mom shade than with a games night with Selena Gomez? There aren’t many.[video_embed id='-1']Before you go: This muddy pup caused a mess of epic proportions[/video_embed]
