Movies aren’t reclaiming Nicole Kidman anytime soon. Hot on the heels of projects like
Big Little Lies,
Top of the Lake, and her recent entry
The Undoing (currently
streaming on Crave), Kidman is already plotting her next TV gig.According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman has signed on to executive produce and star in a TV adaptation of Andrew Bovell’s stage play
Things I Know to Be True for Amazon Prime. For those keeping count, that’s the third project Kidman has in the works with the streaming service—
The Expatriates (based on a novel of the same name) has been greenlit, and
Pretty Things (an adaptation of Janelle Brown’s work) is also in development.
Things I Know to Be True centers on a married couple, Bob and Fran Price, whose adult children make unexpected choices that impact the entire family. It’s a show all about family, relationships, and evolution — in other words, it sounds kind of like Amazon’s version of
This Is Us. Kidman will play Fran, but no other casting has been confirmed just yet. Bovell is also attached and is adapting his play into the scripts as an executive producer.“I'll never forget the experience I had watching Andrew’s play in Sydney, having one of those transcendent theater experiences,” Kidman said in a statement. “Andrew's play is exquisite and his scripts for the series are just as good.”“This is a story about family, that thing you spend your life trying to escape from only to yearn for what you've lost if you ever do. I'm thrilled that an actor of Nicole Kidman's caliber leads the series in the role of Fran Price,” Bovell added. “As a mother and a woman she is complicated, difficult and utterly compelling.”It may be a while before viewers get to take in all of the expected family drama from the comfort of their homes, but they have two other Kidman-fronted projects to look forward to in the meantime. Her Hulu
miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers, co-starring Melissa McCarthy, hits that service in 2021 (so far there are no confirmed Canadian broadcasters). And she is also among
the star-studded cast of Ryan Murphy’s upcoming flick
The Prom, which debuts on Netflix in December. Fittingly, that feel-good, glittery movie is also based on a stage play.Yup, it definitely looks like Kidman isn’t going too far from our television screens anytime soon.
