While it’s not totally clear who the busy “we” Perry was referring to in his Tweet are, it is known that the cast is itching to do this thing already. The reunion, which includes Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, was first confirmed this past February, AKA almost a year ago now. At the time it was scheduled to debut in May with the launch of HBO Max, but then the pandemic hit and the anticipated event has been in limbo ever since. At one point the special had been tentatively rescheduled for August. This past July, Schwimmer confirmed as much to Jimmy Fallon on an episode of The Tonight Show, saying that everyone was shooting for that date. “But honestly we’re gonna wait and see another week or two if we all determine it’s really safe enough to do. And if not, we’ll wait until it’s safe,” he revealed at the time. Sure enough, a couple of weeks later HBO Max announced the special would be delayed again. While the delay may seem silly given all of the other specials, TV shows and films that have been able to resume production, the whole point of the Friends reunion is to have the entire cast together again in front of a live audience for the first time since the show ended in 2004. That makes COVID-19 protocols even trickier to maintain. “We haven't all been in the same room in front of people—I mean, we have privately once many years ago but that's it. The whole point of this is to be in the same room. That hasn't changed. And HBO Max is being phenomenally patient and understanding," Kudrow told THR last May.“Unfortunately it's very sad that we had to move it again,” Aniston told Deadline in August. “It was, 'How do we do this with live audiences?' This is not a safe time. Period. That's the bottom line. It's not a safe time to do it.” The Morning Show SAG winner then added, “It's going to be super. I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed. Look, we're not going anywhere. You're never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You're stuck with us for life, guys.”The good news for fans is that the cast has been giving everyone mini-reunions to tide them over until then. In addition to various posts on social media in which the crew has been (safely) hanging out in Los Angeles, the female cast members reunited over the summer to help encourage fans to vote in the American election. Then, they congregated again for a bit at the 2020 virtual Emmy Awards with host Jimmy Kimmel that had fans swooning. The official reunion is expected to be an unscripted night in which the cast chats and answers questions about their time filming the iconic series. The memorable Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Monica, and Joey portrayers will congregate on their old set at Warner Bros. for the occasion, a soundstage in Burbank, Calif. that just so happens to be across from another (now) iconic show's soundstage: The Big Bang Theory (formerly known as Stage 25).“We don’t know everything about it… I think we’re meant to be surprised by some things as well,” Kudrow revealed in a chat last June with Aniston for an edition of Variety’s Actors on Actors. “We know it’s not scripted, that we know…” Aniston added. “I will not be Rachel, although I kind of am. Well, we’re all sort of little fragments of them. Not really. But yeah.”In other words, grab your oversized coffee cups and settle in for the long haul. Because while fans couldn’t BE anymore excited for this reunion, it doesn’t look like there will be many more details until at least the New Year. In the meantime, is it March already?[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow had a 'Friends' reunion at the Emmys[/video_embed]Friends reunion being rescheduled for the beginning of March. Looks like we have a busy year coming up. And that's the way I like it!
