Fresh off a hot streak at the Oscars, where it won a handful of those little golden guys (including Best Director and Best Picture—the first foreign language film to ever do so), Parasite may be coming to a TV screen near you. And unlike the big screen version, this extended offering might feature one of America’s finest actors, the Hulk himself, Mr. Mark Ruffalo. Before anyone gets their hopes up too much, as of right now the limited six-hour HBO series is only in the very early development stages, but all of the right people seem to be working to make it happen. Parasite director Bong Joon-ho will oversee the entire process alongside fellow Oscar winner Adam McKay (The Big Short), and the scripts will be based on the same Academy Award-winning script written by Bong and Han Jin-won.In case you haven’t seen the South-Korean dark comedy thriller, it follows a poor family that works their way into the good graces of the wealthy family they work for, and shocking things happen in turn. It’s very much an ensemble, so although Ruffalo is rumoured to be involved, it’s not known which character he’d play (odds are it would be one of the two family patriarchs).[video_embed id='1897304']RELATED: 'Parasite,' Laura Dern, Joaquin Phoenix, and more Oscar winners celebrate backstage[/video_embed]At this point HBO has confirmed nothing, Ruffalo is tight-lipped and even Bong hasn’t spilled any casting beans (despite his Oscar-night joke of drinking until noon on Monday in celebration of all the wins). But he has confirmed that a TV series is the ultimate goal now that awards season has wrapped, and Collider reports that they’ve heard through the grapevine that Bong has approached Ruffalo specifically. Apparently there’s definite interest on both sides.
“I had all these key ideas accumulated from when I started writing the script,” Bong told Collider earlier this year. “I just couldn’t include all those ideas in the two-hour running time of the film, so they’re all stored in my iPad and my goal with this limited series is to create a six-hour-long film… I have all these hidden stories that I have stored.”While fans try to break into that iPad, everyone can look forward to Ruffalo’s next project, another HBO limited-series, I Know This Much is True. The four-part offering, which debuts on Crave in April, is based on Wally Lamb’s best-selling book. Ruffalo plays twins (because of course he does) and if the sneak peek reporters saw at the recent Television Critics Association Press Tour in California are any indication, viewers will absolutely want to stock up on heaps of tissues before tuning in.[video_embed id='1896512']Before you go: Turns out Brad Pitt is a big 'Letterkenny' fan[/video_embed]
