This week’s episode of
Keeping Up With The Kardashians (Thursdays at 8pm ET on E!) took us back to late February, when Kanye was planning a secret show for Paris Fashion Week and COVID-19 was just beginning to make headlines in North America. It was basically the calm before the storm, but because we’re talking about the Kardashians, it was anything but calm.During a family dinner at Nobu, Kim casually suggested people could join her on a trip to France, saying. “By the way, Kanye’s doing a show in Paris if anyone wants to go.” It was uttered as casually as most people talk about going to the grocery store, and several of the KarJenner siblings seemed interested. Momager Kris was the first one to bring up the elephant in the room. “Have you guys heard about this new virus?” she asked tentatively.“The corona one?” someone replied. They had all heard of it, but no one seemed overly concerned. Fair enough, given that most of us felt the same way back in February (or “The Before Times,” as we like to call it), but as people currently living in September—aka, month seven of The Great Dumpster Fire of 2020—it's hard not to yell warnings at them all through the television. Oh, to be that innocent once again! There wasn’t a mask or a bottle of hand sanitizer in sight.
Later on, as headlines began to circulate about the virus, Khloe and Scott had a serious discussion about whether or not it was safe to travel. Noting that Kris advised against it, Khloe said that she loves Kanye and wanted to support him but couldn’t risk being separated from daughter True if the airports shut down. “There’s so much uncertainty, I don’t feel comfortable traveling.”Scott agreed, explaining that Kourtney was going to Paris and planned on taking Penelope with her. He was going to stay home with the other two kids, agreeing with Kris and Khloe that the risk wasn’t worth it. Sorry, Yeezy—it’s kids before Kanye.Jumping ahead to Paris, we were treated to some amazing footage of Kim forcing her body into an impossible looking full latex Balmain getup complete with gloves and a structured jacket. Wondering aloud how she would be able to pee independently while wearing the outfit, the answer was clear: that was never going to happen. It was basically a high fashion body condom with shoulder pads. She looked amazing and a little bit uncomfortable—essentially, the perfect Fashion Week ensemble. Kourt was in a slightly less complicated complementary latex look, which the sisters wore to Sunday Service before hitting up a Balenciaga show.[video_embed id='2036367']RELATED: Kim Kardashian’s new maternity shapewear line receives mixed reactions [/video_embed]As talk of the coronavirus loomed, Kim was more stressed out about Kanye’s impending show than the virus itself. Kourtney seemed more on edge, bringing out hand sanitizer at dinner and acknowledging her anxiety as outbreaks continued to make the news. Meanwhile, Kanye was seen sipping on a delightfully colourful martini while North and Penelope ate gourmet churros. Living the dream, basically.When it came time for
the actual fashion show, Kanye pulled it off and got solid reviews for his neutral palette and car horn soundtrack. North surprised everyone by closing the show with a rap that shouted out “CLOTHES!” and her cousin Penelope, and Kim cried at the sight of her daughter performing for a huge audience. “I’m proud of how confident she is,” Kim revealed. “She obviously gets that from her dad.” (Yup, the West genes run strong in that kid).Back in Calabasas, Corey was “single parenting” a new dog and we finally got to see the fallout from Khloe and Scott’s
epic prank on Kris. After convincing Kris she’d gotten so drunk, she’d climbed into a dumpster and vomited before peeing outside a liquor store, Khloe and Scott admitted that it was just Khloe in disguise. Relieved and incredulous, Kris quickly turned the tables on her kids,
pranking Kim back by pretending to go to rehab. It all worked out in the end, but not before some screaming, some laughter and a weird aside wherein Kris dressed up like a dog to get Corey’s attention. (Also, this is apparently the episode where we learn that Corey dresses almost exclusively in Ellen Show apparel, which
kind of makes sense).Ahh, family. As Kim said about their trip to Paris, “We’ll always have these memories.”Watch
