Fans of Killing Eve (Sundays, 10 p.m. ET, CTV Drama Channel) are pretty used to wild curveballs at this point in the series—so far they’ve had two full seasons of them, after all. But was anyone really prepared to meet the exact opposite of Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) in her daughter Geraldine (Game of Throne’s Gemma Whelan) in the latest episode? Viewers may feel like the casting gods were smiling when that one happened because now that the mother-daughter relationship is on the table this show is about to put the fun back in dysfunctional.

'Couldn’t we be sad and listen to good music?'

Part of what makes Carolyn such a fun character, especially towards the end of season two, is how the powers that be have made her into this emotionless powerhouse who brings comedy into dark-as-hell situations. That’s what always made watching her and her son Kenny (Sean Delaney) so fun. But with Kenny’s death in the Season Three premiere, Carolyn needs someone new to bounce off of, and who better than her empath daughter, Geraldine? The character was introduced at the funeral of all places, and sure, she’s clearly being used as a pawn in whatever scheme Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) has up his sleeve. But she’s also going to drive her dear old mum up the wall in the weeks to come and if previous Carolyn scenes are any indication, it’s going to bring a lot of laughs. In the meantime, viewers will surely just camp out in their cars with some classical music and sandwiches in anticipation.

Speaking of Kenny, his death was indeed confirmed early on in the episode when Eve (Sandra Oh) got sloshed at the funeral and connected with his co-workers who were just as eager to break open that stolen phone as she is. At this point it’s hard to figure out if Eve should trust Carolyn or if it’s Bear (Turlough Convery) and Jamie (Danny Sapani) she should work with, but given everything else that’s happened to the character so far it’s probably safe to say trust no one.Either way, Eve is officially breaking out of her dumpling funk—inability to open doors aside. Hopefully she can push through some of that previous damage and use work to sort through her feelings, because therapy apparently isn’t a thing she seems interested in doing. Which, she probably should be, especially that she now that knows Villanelle is back to her murderous ways.[video_embed id='1941852']RELATED: What We're Watching: Current favourite TV shows[/video_embed]

Management sucks

Well to be fair, Villanelle (Jodie Comer) isn’t exactly ringing the murder bell these days; she’s moved on to training other would-be assassins on how to do their thing. As it turns out, Dasha (Harriet Walter) wasn’t completely stringing V along, and she managed to get her a Keeper gig with The Twelve after all. Or so it seems. A reappearance by this season’s shadiest character, Konstantin, informed fans that Dasha did something really bad to Villanelle back in the day and like most killers, she shouldn’t be trusted (this is where viewers could really use a flashback episode). What The Twelve has up its sleeve and who is really running the show seems to be the year’s big mystery, along with whether or not it ties into Kenny’s death. One thing is for sure though: this thing is bigger than any of the characters we've already met.But back to Villanelle’s new protégé, aka a 19-year-old named Felix (Stefan Iancu). “The travel is what I’m most excited about. I love hotels,” he told a disgusted Villanelle at the bus shelter. It was pretty obvious to everyone how that was going to turn out, right? Flash forward to the pair in those unsettling clown images that have been all over the previews, and to Felix completely botching his first kill with a bloody bathroom fistfight.Clearly Villanelle had zero time for that, and so she shot both men before booking it in whatever clown car she came from. So much for clean kills and sticking to her lane, huh? If The Twelve gives her a second shot then the organization is definitely up to something. Unfortunately everyone is just going to have to hold their hearse horses on that one until another new episode airs next week.Killing Eve airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on CTV Drama Channel.[video_embed id='1941905']BEFORE YOU GO: Rachel McAdams is a hometown hero with this major quarantine donation[/video_embed]
