When Katy Perry dropped her latest single, ‘Never Worn White,’ last week, the music video racked up 19 million views in four days because of one very huge denouement to the colourful clip—the cradling of her baby bump. News of Katy Perry’s pregnancy spread as she confirmed it on her social media channels, and it seems the music community could not be happier for her and fiancé Orlando Bloom. But there was one community that still needed to hear the words straight from the horse’s mouth, and that was her American Idol fam.As Mama Katy stood sandwiched between Uncle Lionel Ritchie and Uncle Luke Bryan on the most night’s episode of the long running musical talent show, the time came for her to tell everyone the happy news. “We’re having a baby!” she gleefully announced as Lionel and Luke squeezed her into a group hug. “Oh my god, I’m terrified,” she quipped.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am that we’re going to have a fourth judge on the show this year,” Lionel exclaimed as Luke suggested that he could bring fishing tackle to the baby shower. Aw Luke, that’s so adorable (but no).“I’m definitely going to get fat,” she joked. “Everything is going to be bigger and better on American Idol!”Some suspicious viewers might have already sussed her out when she passed out last week over a suspected gas leak during auditions, but social media was awash with praise and good wishes for her and her handsome Pirates of the Caribbean fiancé.The love-fest continued during the Idol auditions when boyfriend-girlfriend duo Kat and "Space Cowboy" Alejandro auditioned together with an acoustic rendition of "Shallow" from A Star Is Born, with the couple showing almost as much chemistry and Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. The judges were noticeably impressed, but Katy, whose mouth was hanging open during the entire song, was moved beyond words. Luke even noticed a tear or two on her cheek. "Are you crying?!" he asked, to which she stuttered, "I believe in love again!"
Unfortunately, the ‘Roar’ singer shared some sad news the same night as she revealed her happy American Idol baby announcement. In a touching and bittersweet Instagram post Monday morning, Perry revealed that her beloved grandmother passed away and wondered if the spirit of her new baby might have crossed paths with grandma Ann. She wrote, “I don’t know when a soul enters a new vehicle but if there is an afterlife where there’s a waiting room of the coming and going my mind wonders if the soul that is waiting to come into my world is getting a kiss on the forehead from my sweet Grandma that departed this earth yesterday. My heart hopes so. If she is able to speak with the soul in waiting the conversation would probably include ‘are sure you wanna pick this wild group?!’”
Our hearts are filled with nothing but support for Katy as she goes through this, but considering that she hopes her new baby will be a girl, perhaps her granny already had an unspoken word with her expectant bundle.American Idol airs on Sundays at 8pET on CTV.[video_embed id='1913978']BEFORE YOU GO: It may be called 'American Idol', but Canada is well represented [/video_embed]
