John Krasinski wore a wig undetected on The Office

In what can best be described as a total Jim Halpert move, John Krasinski wore a wig to meet with the creators of The Office to prove that his hair piece looked real enough to pass on screen. This is according to hairstylist Kim Ferry, who helped Krasinski and rest of the cast on The Office create some of the show’s most iconic looks.In a new interview with Mashable, Ferry says that she helped Krasinski convince showrunner Greg Daniels to allow Krasinski to cut his hair in order to star opposite George Clooney in 2008’s Leatherheads. Ferry says that appearing in the film meant Krasinski would have to change his hair before filming the final six episodes of Season 3, a request that Daniels shut down. Not ready to take ‘no’ for an answer (again, Clooney), Krasinski requested Ferry’s help in crafting a wig.[video_embed id='1957077']RELATED: 'The Office' cast reunites for a fan's wedding on 'Some Good News'[/video_embed]"He paid for the wig — a human hair wig made by a friend of mine, Natascha Ladek, who's the best wig maker in town," Ferry said, adding that the pair’s plan was a daunting one that made her feel like her job was being put on the line. "She came in to do a secret little fitting for him, she made the wig, we got it, and it looked amazing. [Krasinski] came in a little later that day, and I had the wig hidden in a little secret spot ready for him. When it was just him and I, I put it on him, and then he went out and filmed."Ferry said she followed Krasinski, who was still wearing the wig, to Daniels' office and nervously waited outside. While waiting for Daniels' reaction, Ferry said writer and actor BJ Novak (Ryan Howard) walked by her and asked if she was waiting to hear about whether she could cut Krasinski’s hair. Ferry remembers Novak telling her, "Well, I've gotta tell you... I just saw John and I feel like we're gonna know if it's a wig or not."Ferry said she was relieved that Novak couldn’t tell Krasinski was already wearing his wig and was eventually called into Daniels' office. "The first thing Greg said was, 'Wow. You guys have balls,' and then goes, 'but I have to say I didn't see that coming.'" Ferry said that Krasinski had been pleading with Daniels to let him wear a wig, which he refused. "Greg kept saying, 'No! I would know if you're wearing a wig.' So John leaned over the desk and said, 'No I don't think you would.' That's when he ripped it off and shut it down, and we got to do the wig."Ferry, who has worked on Pretty Little Liars, ER, Bunheads and Veronica Mars, joined The Office in Season 2 and can be credited for Michael Scott’s makeover. Ferry and Steve Carell had recently worked together on Bruce Almighty and Ferry said she wanted to give the actor a less severe look. "[Steve's] a good looking guy. I wanted to showcase that… and really make him look well-groomed and a little more put together,” said Ferry.The TV hairstylist was also responsible for the show’s most dramatic hair moments, including Meredith (Kate Flannery) lighting her hair on fire and shaving her head. During the ‘Lice’ episode in Season 9, Pam (Jenna Fisher) accidentally infects the office with lice, prompting Meredith (Kate Flannery) to shave her head. "That was three weeks of prep for me, and I had to be able to figure everything out, because Greg Daniels wanted [Kate Flannery] to shave her head. He really did. And I just couldn't allow it," Ferry explained.In the end, an expert makeup artist, help from the prop department to create fake shears, and a lot of work from Ferry made it possible for Flannery to realistically shave her head on screen and keep her locks in real life.
