Well, that's one way to open a monologue.

Jennifer Lopez once told us through the medium of song not to be fooled by the rocks that she got, but nearly 20 years later, that’s still a struggle because it seems like every chance she gets, she shines brighter than any gemstone. Who would have thought that this former Fly Girl from the little cable comedy show In Living Color would go on to star in blockbuster after blockbuster, including this year’s Hustlers (which premiered at TIFF), play the Superbowl Half Time show for the second time, and have a gaggle of Top 10 pop hits under her belt? JLo, that's who.On top of it all, Saturday marked JLo's third time hosting Saturday Night Life (where does she find the time?!), and during her opening monologue she made heads explode by busting out in one of her most iconic outfits. You will recall she walked the 2000 Grammys red carpet wearing that impossible Versace dress that is one part design brilliance and two parts engineering miracle and then busted out a version of that same green dress earlier this year and basically broke the internet—something JLo pointed out before the big SNL reveal.“I walked the runway in Milan wearing the same dress I wore 20 years ago. Some people said I look better now than I did then. And I’m not bragging, you know, that’s just gossip,” she said. Jenny, that’s not gossip, that is a mathematical certainty. But in case there were some skeptics in the audience at Studio 8H, after high-kicking on stage with a group of Rockettes and singing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," she tore off the tuxedo she was wearing to reveal—you guessed it—that impossible, iconic Versace dress! *swoon*Someone call the morgue because we have officially died. You have to watch that moment for yourself. Her monologue wasn’t all leggy kicks and sexy threads. Jlo also had a message about persevering when everyone wants to discount you.As she listed everything she’s been up to this year, it quickly became obvious that this wasn’t the normal SNL monologue where the celebrity guest host promotes their latest movie or brags about how popular they are. Jenny From the Block was specifically talking to ambitious young girls and thriving women about not discounting their achievements, to keep punching through that glass ceiling, to never make themselves small to accommodate the insecurities of others, and most importantly, ageing doesn’t mean you need to hit the brakes.“What I really want to say to everyone out there watching is the best is yet to come. People try to write you off you know, it’s all B.S. None of us have a shelf life. Look at me! They tried to count me out so many times. But I’m still here!” she said to a round of cheers. She also addressed her "big birthday" this summer, whispering "I turned . . .” and then screaming with pride, “50!” Yes girl, ain’t no shame in turning 50. Say it loud, say it proud. She continued, “I slayed the Met Gala. And that’s not a brag. A doctor diagnosed it on the spot as a fourth-degree slay.”*Checks notes* Yup that’s correct, we still have the burns from her hotness. But let’s not forget what makes all of these successes worthwhile—the support from her loved ones. “I got what every girl from the Bronx dreams of—proposed to by a Yankee.”Later in the show, her fiancé Alex Rodriguez made a cameo in a sketch with your boyfriend Pete Davidson that's also worth your time.
