Dr. Sheldon Cooper and Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler are reuniting much sooner than we anticipated and this time around it has nothing to do with string theory. Which is great, because we still don’t understand string theory. Big Bang Theory stars and on-screen husband and wife duo Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik have just announced that they’re teaming up to bring the UK comedy Miranda to North American audiences, re-naming the show Carla and casting Bialik as the titular character. Bazinga! The new show will be executive produced by both Bialik and Parsons and will air on Fox, who won the rights to the UK spinoff after what Deadline is reporting was a highly competitive bidding war among all the major stations. Yeah, we bet. The Big Bang Theory holds the title for the longest running multi-camera sitcom and was one of the most successful TV shows of all time. No surprise, people want a piece of The Big Bang Theory 2.0.Carla stars Bialik as a “39-year-old woman who struggles every day against society and her mother to prove that you CANNOT have everything you want — and still be happy. Which is why she spent the money her parents set aside for her wedding to open a Cat Café in Louisville, KY.”Parsons took home four Emmys for his time as Dr. Sheldon Cooper and wrote on Instagram “We’re early in this process and it has already been such fun and filled with joy... but, no surprise: that’s usually what it feels like to work with @missmayim.” Bialik, who earned four Primetime Emmy nominations for her role on The Big Bang Theory also celebrated the news of their new show on social media, sharing a picture of the longtime friends and writing “We could not be more excited to work together and bring you this show which features SO MANY CATS!!!! Here's us at one of our pitches, uncannily and totally coincidentally dressed like salt and pepper shakers.”
Set to debut next year during the Fall 2020 lineup, Carla will be written by Darlene Hunt, whose credits include 90210, Will & Grace, The Goldbergs, and The Big C, which Hunt created and earned an Emmy nomination for as a producer. Carla is based on the BBC program Miranda, the semi-autobiographical series written by actor and comedian Miranda Hart. First beginning as the radio show Miranda Hart’s Joke Shop on BBC Radio 2, Hart went on to create the critically acclaimed BBC TV series, which aired for three seasons and included several Christmas specials. Most recognizable to American viewers for her roles as Chummy in the BBC show Call The Midwife, Hart won four British Comedy Awards and earned four BAFTA nominations for Miranda.
