The NBA All-Star Weekend culminated in the much-anticipated All-Star Game Sunday night in Chicago and everything from the performers to the points system paid tribute to the late great Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant. With the game taking place less a month after the two were killed in a tragic helicopter crash, along with seven others, the emotions were raw as the whole league paid homage to the two basketball players. Even the performances that weren't explicitly tributes turned into exactly that. Common, a Chicago native, opened the night with a dual tribute to his hometown and Kobe, before introducing the players, many of whom displayed their own acknowledgements of Bryant.Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne, Quavo and DJ Khaled performed at the game's Half Time Show and while they certainly put on a fun show, they also shared their own salutes to the basketball legend through video and fashion choices. They had dancers dressed in Lakers purple and yellow and Lil Wayne wore pants made from Kobe's #24 jersey. Chance also took a special moment during the show to dedicate an excerpt of "I Was a Rock" to the dearly departed father-daughter duo.The real climax of the acknowledgements was a speech given by Magic Johnson, which he also dedicated to the late former NBA commissioner David Stern who passed away January 1 of is year. His tribute was followed by a soulful solo by Jennifer Hudson where the singer performed Donny Hathaway's "For All We Know (We May Meet Again)" to a dark stadium while pictures of Kobe and Gianna flashed across a screen behind her.
While all the celebs and players certainly did their parts to honour #24, the NBA itself fashioned the game in remembrance of Kobe from the teams to the way scoring was handled. The two teams, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James, wore the numbers 24 and 2 respectively, repping Kobe's number and the jersey Gianna wore to play the game. The shot clock illuminated every time it hit the numbers 24 and 8—the two numbers Kobe wore as a Laker.[video_embed id='1902430']RELATED: The stars descend on Chicago for NBA All-Star weekend[/video_embed]The scoring also reflected the iconic #24 with the un-timed final quarter only ending once one team reached "the cumulative score of the team that's ahead plus 24 points." Ultimately, it was Team Lebron that pulled ahead to win 157-155 over Team Giannis (which included Toronto Raptors Pascal Siakam and Kyle Lowry).[video_embed id='1900298']RELATED: Cabbie Richards remembers the first time he met Kobe Bryant[/video_embed]
