Actor Jay Baruchel is basically Canada’s sweetheart—he makes amazing movies, he’s always blithe and chipper and he has never forgotten where he comes from. Heck, his twitter handle @BaruchelNDG refers to Montreal’s Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood. And like any good Canadian with a thick Canadian accent, he doesn’t have a bad word to say about anybody . . . even if that person is known oddball Nicolas Cage.During an appearance on Tuesday night's Conan (Monday-Thursday 1:30ET on CTV), Jay told a rather odd story about working with the notorious Hollywood enigma and, well, let’s just say he did his best to be gracious and kind in face of all that weirdness. As Conan began to ask about Jay’s experience working with Cage in the 2010 flick The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a haggard photo of Cage, taken on the TIFF red carpet no less, flashed across the screen, causing a fit of giggles.“Oh God, guys! There’s a million photos you could have picked!” Jay protested, “Not ‘tired at TIFF!’”
After calling him a "very specific person" and a "bespoke individual"—see, polite to a fault!—Jay delivered the goods about his one-time co-star.Turns out, during the filming of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Cage had a strange dream that he just had to share with Jay, causing a suitably weird interaction about a man known for his strange behaviour.“I remember once I was like, ‘How was your night?’ Jay recalled. "And he was like, ‘I had this dream; there was a shrimp man! He had a human body and a shrimp head! He was just pointing at me going, SHRIMP YOU F**K. SHRIMP YOU F**K! And I drew it to show you!’”Um, cool? Anyone else at this point would hope the floor would open up and swallow them hole, but Jay, being the polite Canadian he is, nodded and listened to this bizarre tale.“Twenty minutes later,” he continued, “his assistant, this lovely Englishman, came over like, ‘Mr. Cage wanted you to see this.’ And it’s just a drawing of a shrimp guy, with a shrimp head and a human body.”Imagine being so Canadian that you just politely accept the drawing and go about your day? Jay, you are a legend.[video_embed id='6020107209001']RELATED: Nicolas Cage ends his four-day marriage[/video_embed]
