This period of self-isolation and stay-at-home orders has many getting creative in order to keep their minds occupied. Some read books; some take up a new instrument; but Scottish actor James McAvoy decided to get together with his friends (distantly through Zoom, of course) to film a Star Trek spoof called “Star Force: Sci-Fisolation,” (not to be confused with Space Force—the Steve Carrell show or Space Force—President Trump’s vanity project) just for a laugh. The results are absolutely iconic.“It's a spoof homage. It's like a ‘spomage,’" he laughed with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show (weekdays at 11:35ET on CTV2) over video-chat from his home in the U.K. “It basically is a kind of spoof of Star Trek. But we try to keep it as sci-fisolated as possible.”
We’re calling it—sci-fisolated is the word of the summer. And fam, you need to see just how far the Atonement star and his buddies pushed it. Using remote controls as laser guns, blenders for thrusters, a washing machine for an engine, and a wee little doggie as a terrifying alien, the X-Men hero has created a truly awful but endearing alternative to the world of Captain Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard (oh, and there's a sequel).“So, you know sometimes the guys are coming up with really good ideas for like a good-looking laser gun, and we're like, ‘Yeah, that's cool. That's looks like a really cool laser gun.’ And you're like, ‘You know what? It was funnier when you were using the remote control.’ We had to pull ourselves back from being too good!” James explained.[video_embed id='1888650']RELATED: Sir Patrick Stewart talks about returning to his most iconic role [/video_embed]Welp, they definitely weren’t too good, but the actors give 110% and somehow, we're buying in to this Not-Star-Trek world. But seeing as how James has played a young Patrick Stewart (who just celebrated his 80th birthday BTW!) in the X-Men movie world, surely he could now play a young Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek world, right?“That is the only world that exists,” McAvoy laughed, “in which I will play Jean-Luc Picard. Any other world is just an alternate reality in a bad episode of Star Trek! If they don't hire me, I'm gonna make it on my phone!”“Listen, I'm calling it right now,” he continued, “I'm doing the virtual lockdown equivalent of rubbing my scent all over Patrick's face, and saying this territory is mine. All the other bald actors can f*** off!”Wow, he’s truly committed to it. Here’s hoping the producers of Star Trek: Picard season two are listening!
