As the COVID-19 global pandemic evolves, so does our language surrounding it and sometimes it takes a late night hero like James Corden to really help spread new terminology. In recent weeks, the phrase "physical distancing" has become the WHO's preferred term over the original "social distancing" to describe way we should (and shouldn't) interact with others. In an effort to really make sure it sticks, James has come up with a fun new tech device that allows him to check in on his celebrity friends so he can be socially close while physically distant. In Corden's world, spinning a wheel with a bunch of familiar famous faces automatically connects to a secret hidden camera in their homes, so we can get a glimpse of their daily lives in quarantine and make sure they're doing okay. James, so selfless, always thinking of others! Spin that wheel, Vanna!
First up was Josh Groban, and while you may have expected him to be sitting at a grand piano peppered with rose petals while crooning in the candlelight, turns out quarantine-Groban is a little less polished. James patches into Josh’s kitchen to find him dressed from head to toe in a banana costume, eating a banana, and singing John Lennon’s "Jealous Guy" to the snack. Ohhhh-kaaayyyyyy. To make matters worse, when the phone rings, Josh answers the call on another—you guessed it—banana! This Josh is bananas : B-A-N-A-N-A-S.James continues spinning, dropping in on comedian Whitney Cummings as she slides down her staircase on a blanket sled (remember how that was a thing a few weeks ago?) and VEEP star Tony Hale talking to a creepy china doll. Quarantine is doing some weird things to people. Thankfully, Michael Bublé seems to be staying as relatable as ever.James cuts to the Vancouver native's home where he and wife Luisana Lopilato are cozied up in bed bickering over what to watch on Netflix. Truly, there has to be scientific evidence by now that choosing whether to watch Love is Blind or Tiger King is the leading cause of breakups in 2020.[video_embed id='1943018']RELATED: Canada’s best unite for COVID-19 relief concert[/video_embed]Jokes aside, Michael Bublé has been virtually letting people into his home quite a bit lately, doing a daily livestream on his social channels and participating in call-in concerts like Disney's Family Singalong and One World: Together at Home. He's also set to perform again this Sunday along with other Canadian stars like Shania Twain, Céline Dion and Jann Arden for the Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble special (Sunday, April 26 at 7 p.m. ET on CTV).For celebs less accessible than Bublé, we hope Corden's “checking in” wheel makes more appearances on The Late Late Show. And we've got some ideas on who to check in on next—Shia Leboeuf, perhaps? Just imagine that for a second. You’re welcome.Watch The Late Late Show with James Corden weekdays at 12:37 a.m. ET on CTV.[video_embed id='1942802']BEFORE YOU GO: Gaga, Beyoncé, Shawmila wow during ‘One World’ concert[/video_embed]
