Admittedly, it’s not rare to well up while watching
The Voice—a show that combines musical performances and personal backstories is a recipe for a weekly weep session. But on Tuesday’s episode, even coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Gwen Stefani, and Blake Shelton got teary-eyed. Well, no one is surprised serial crier Kelly shed tears.Tuesday’s Battle Round started out a lotta bit country, with two of the only country singers this season (we know, Season 17 has been weird, y’all) doing what should count as their first of many duets together. Cory Jackson and Zach Bridges were not only born to sing country, they were born to do it together. Jackson Bridges? That’s a cool country duo name.
Jackson Bridges gave a solid performance, but it wasn’t until duo Stephanie and Dane battled Marybeth on “Burning House” that we started to get in our feelings. John Legend and celebrity advisor Usher helping Dane through his vocal transition? Twin harmonies? Marybeth being touted as a finalist by Blake?

But the pairing that likely turned the viewing audience into a
Kim Kardashian crying meme was between Rose and Jessie. The pair were already on our mental Favourites List from the Blind Auditions because of their incredible voices and positive attitude amidst life’s challenges (Jessie grew up in the foster care system and spent two years homeless, Rose quit her job as a correctional officer to risk her livelihood for a chance to be on
The Voice) but Tuesday night cemented them in our hearts.Holding hands and hyping one another up before rehearsal? Love. Rose telling Jessie, "Somebody that looks like you needs to see you and somebody that looks like me needs to see me." Love. The pair breaking down in tears when meeting Celebrity Advisor will.i.am? Love. (Sidenote: how disappointing is it to see singers who are obviously not thrilled with the Celebrity Advisor?) We’re looking forward to Taylor Swift as the mentor next week—all the Swifties are gonna lose it.Rose and Jessie equally divided their time in rehearsal between singing and pumping up the other person, which was so refreshing to see. Yes, this is a competition and this section of the show literally has the word ‘battle’ in it, but these two have realized the secret to doing your best isn’t tearing down the other person.As for Jessie and Rose’s pitch-perfect and high energy performance of The Weeknd’s "Can’t Feel My Face," we were mostly grateful that Gwen chose an upbeat song. A ballad would have been too much to bare.
Both singers have already improved dramatically since their Blind Auditions and Rose was in tears after hearing John Legend called her a superstar and Kelly was in tears, obvi. But the waterworks really came in after Gwen picked Rose as the winner and then immediately pushed her button to save Jessie, with Blake making the surprise move to try to steal. Quickly making his intentions clear, Blake said that Gwen was the right coach for Jessie, but he pushed his button for a steal just to show how much he believed in Jessie. We are all Kelly Clarkson.
