Hot Priest is getting his own TV series because sometimes we get nice things

Fresh off his Critics Choice Awards win for Supporting Actor in a Comedy, Fleabag's Hot Priest has booked his next heavenly gig and we are saying our prayers to Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the delightfully twisted mind that gave us his memorable character.While we hope that those two work together on something soon, we are elated that Andrew Scott (yes, he has a real name guys) is returning to the small screen with the upcoming Showtime project, Ripley.If The Talented Mr. Ripley jumps to mind, you’re on the right track. The eight-part series is indeed based on Patricia Highsmith’s novels, which inspired the 1999 movie with Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and Matt Damon. This “hot” take (sorry, we can’t help ourselves) takes place in 1960's New York where a small-time swindler is hired by a rich guy for a job, but before he knows it he’s involved in deceit, fraud and—you guessed it—murder.Obviously, Scott plays the lead, which automatically gives us faith because after the second season of Fleabag, we imagine the actor could probably do anything he wants. Well, so long as foxes aren’t involved.[video_embed id='1874960']These stars won big at the Critics' Choice Awards[/video_embed]Sadly we do have to wait some time until Ripley premieres in 2021.  Showtime brass confirmed the news on January 13 at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, while also revealing that Bryan Cranston’s upcoming limited series, Your Honor, is in production now and that long-running series Shameless will end after its Season 11, which airs this summer.On the bright side, it should give PWB plenty of time to figure out a third-season script for Fleabag. It’s probably also worth mentioning that Scott has been in a few things since Fleabag that are also totally worth checking out, like Modern Love, 1917 and His Dark Materials.And while Waller-Bridge hit the stage last night to accept the Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy Series, audiences learned a very important tidbit about Hot Priest: he was inspired by Jennifer Lopez.

Yep, you heard that right. PWB admitted that while she was trying to “break the character,” as writer-types say, she couldn’t quite figure him out. Until she realized that his favourite song was “Jenny From the Block,” and a whole world opened up. Waller-Bridge even thanked J-Lo in her acceptance speech, although she couldn’t quite see the Oscar-snubbed Hustlers star in the crowd.J-Lo, however, sees all.
