In 16 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy (Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on CTV) there have been many breakups. But on this week’s episode, the writers saved a single mom and reunited a teen with his foster siblings just in time to make viewers feel comfortable and safe before slamming them with not one, but two major breakups. Way harsh, Grey’s. Now, let’s start those new ships!

FIREFIGHTERS AND NOSES AND BEARS, OH MY

The episode picked up from a Station 19 (Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CTV) crossover that began with a team camping trip and ended with the firefighters and plus-one Jackson (Jesse Williams) rushing to save a couple attacked by a bear. The message was that you should only be with someone who is willing to jump in front of a bear for you, but another takeaway is that Maggie (Kelly McCreary) was totally right to not want to go camping with Jackson. Watching a man have his nose ripped off and then die from blood loss was enough to prompt Jackson to finally apologize to Maggie for leaving her alone in the woods on the night of their breakup. So, to answer to heavily-debated question 'What does it take for Jackson to apologize?' Death by bear.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: ‘Station 19’ cast tease ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ crossover[/video_embed]

ANDREW’S MANIA

Andrew’s (Giacomo Gianniotti) sister Carina (Stephania Spampinato) typically only pops up when it’s time to tell a medical doctor they accidentally got pregnant or when something is wrong with Andrew. This week it's the latter. Andrew’s dedication to his patient Suzanne (guest star Sarah Rafferty) has crossed into obsession, which frankly is how most of us would want our doctors to react if we were dying of some mysterious illness. Unfortunately, Andrew’s father also had the same time of obsession that turned into mania, which is what Carina thinks is happening with Andrew. He’s just a good doctor! A good doctor who couldn’t get off the couch for weeks when Sam left him, aggressively pursued a relationship with his boss, then risked his medical career and his freedom for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). Well, when Carina says it like that…yeah, it doesn’t look good.Meredith steps in to replace Andrew just as he and Dr. Riley (guest star Shoshannah Stern) diagnose Suzanne and save her life. Instead of giving Meredith a five second debrief, Andrew hip checks her away from the IV to administer the life-saving drugs. If this were any other resident, Meredith would have fired him immediately, but it’s not. It’s Andrew and his mania means he sees Meredith as the enemy and now as his ex. It’s good news for Cormac (Richard Flood) and Meredith shippers, but bad news for Andrew in general.

WHO IS THE FATHER?

Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and her sister-doctor Maggie are spending the day in bed while Amelia figures out whether she can be with Link (Chris Carmack) knowing he may not want to be with her if the baby isn’t his. Maggie expertly steps around the landmines of a pregnant woman dealing with baby daddy drama and gently points out that Link has valid concerns that Amelia will go back to Owen (Kevin McKidd) if he’s the father. But hormones beat common sense and Amelia breaks up with Link and his jawline. Well, you tried, Maggie.

RICHARD’S SPIRAL

The good news is that Miranda (Chandra Wilson) and Richard (James Pickens, Jr.) are once again friends, so we can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The bad news is that Richard is spiraling into depression and can’t even find joy in teaching interns to use a whatchamacallit to fix a whosit. Damn you, Catherine Fox.

NICO IS IN

Remember when Nico (Alex Landi) called Levi (Jake Borelli) a gay-by and didn’t want to be with someone who wasn’t out? Or when Levi bravely moved out of his mother’s basement because she wouldn’t tell his family he was gay? Levi remembers, which is why Nico admitting that he’s not out to his family is both reassuring and infuriating. Reassuring because it likely means Nico does want to live together but doesn’t want his parents to know. Infuriating because what the heck, Nico? No one is saying you need your own float in a parade, but don’t shame your boyfriend into coming out and then not tell him you’re closeted.

THE GHOST OF ALEX KAREV

Alex’s need to take time away from Jo has gone from family drama to straight up ghosting. Now he’s just three blinking dots on Jo and Meredith’s phone. The end is near for Alex Karev but the big question is, how painful is this going to be for Jo? And how long before she and Link can be together because these genetically blessed besties need some love.Watch new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on CTV and catch up online anytime at CTV.ca.[video_embed id='1905635']BEFORE YOU GO: The best bits of Bieber's 'Late Late Show' takeover[/video_embed]
