Do you ever look at the endless streaming services and think, "This is cool and all, but I’ve only got 10 minutes and I need to be entertained?" What to do then—watch 10 minutes of a longer show; try to spend just 10 minutes on YouTube (lol as if!). No. You don’t do any of that because starting April 6, North Americans can get their hands on bite-sized content made for on-the-go viewing.Bell Media is bringing the new global streaming platform, Quibi—short for “quick bites”—to Canada with a bunch of exclusive content as well as unique programming sure to speedily satisfy an entertainment itch. All of Quibi’s shows are 10 minutes or less and totally optimized for mobile viewing (meaning no weirdness when you switch between portrait and landscape mode).“We are excited to partner with Bell and Canada’s top news and sports brands from Bell Media to deliver daily curated programs that will provide Canadians all of the biggest moments and stories of the day in quick bites,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, Founder and Chairman of the Board, Quibi, via press release.
The clips may be short but that doesn’t mean they’re lacking in substance. Quibi will have feature-length dramas in 10-minute chapters, like Most Dangerous Game starring Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz and Survive starring Sophie Turner and Corey Hawkins. There’s A-list heavy comedy too, like Flipped starring Will Forte, Kaitlin Olson, Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria. Possibly the best addition is the reality offering, like Chrissy Teigen’s Chrissy’s Court, which you might remember her casting for back in August last year.[video_embed id='1907812']RELATED: Chrissy Teigen reveals one of the hardest parts of raising a daughter[/video_embed]
In addition to those announced titles, rest assured there’s more content coming from some of Hollywood heavy-hitters like Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Zac Efron, Laura Dern, Demi Lovato, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Hart, Trevor Noah, Tyra Banks, Joe Jonas and Kendall and Kris Jenner. Basically, if you have a SAG card, you’ve got a Quibi show. "They have made incredible stories—beautiful things that have been produced for this and I think people are going to be wowed by it," Katzenberg added to BNN Bloomberg."It's a marriage of tech and content," Bell Media president Randy Lennox said on
Your Morning. "It's a busy content world but everyone knows, a hit is a hit is a hit. And this man [Kratzenberg], historically, is a guy who knocks it out of the park in terms of the actual content. That's what matters."
In Canada, we’ll also get “Daily Essentials” in the form of three- to six-minute news streams from CTV, seven days a week—get ready to be the friend who always knows the news—and quick, daily TSN updates with all the sports highlights you need. So if you’d like to talk to us, we suggest doing it before April 6th because afterwards we can’t make any promises that we won’t be busy watching our new favourite shows in 10-minute increments.[video_embed id='1913978']BEFORE YOU GO: It may be called 'American Idol', but Canada is well represented [/video_embed]
