If you haven’t checked into the Rosebud Motel in a while and you want to find out how the little Canadian comedy that could, Schitt’s Creek, wrapped its epic six-season run, then be warned of spoilers below. Because the Dan and Eugene Levy-created comedy ended for good on April 7—exactly six years to the day after they started shooting it. Naturally, emotional fans had some pretty strong reactions to how it all went down. The heartfelt series finale had everything: a wedding, Moira (Catherine O’Hara) officiating, the town stepping in to help one of their own, and an actual “happy ending” courtesy of a misunderstanding with a masseuse. It also ended on a high note when Johnny (Eugene Levy) and Moira packed those wigs up and drove off towards the West Coast, leaving their kids Alexis (Annie Murphy) and David (Dan Levy) to finally fend for themselves in NYC and the town they once hated, respectively.[video_embed id='1932093']RELATED: ‘Schitt’s Creek’ cast covers ‘Variety’ and chats final season[/video_embed]Fans were there for it, too. The show was the number one trending topic on Twitter in Canada, the U.S., and well, worldwide as it aired, reminding everyone out there that there are indeed better days ahead. For their part, the cast were equally into the finale online viewing party. Dan Levy announced to fans that they helped raise more than $165,000 for foodbanks during the coronavirus pandemic, as everyone else from his pops to Emily Hampshire, who played Stevie, got in on the action.

This picture was taken on our last day in our Rosebud Motel room. Tears are a good thing. It means you care. This show has been the love of my life for the past seven years. Getting to tell these stories, build these characters, and watch them grow has been a privilege for which I will always be grateful. Working with this brilliant cast and crew and basking in the glow of their extraordinary talent for six amazing seasons are what I’m going to miss the most. We built a family on those sets and it’s reassuring to know that time won’t ever change that. I love you guys more than you will ever know. And as for our viewers, getting to share this show with you, getting to watch you champion it, tell your friends about it, herald its messages of love and acceptance and decency with such empathy and passion...that is something I will never forget. The stories you have shared with me over the years have made me laugh and cry and feel empowered to keep making things that mean something. You’ve taught me that television has the power to not only bring people together in profound and inspiring ways, but also the power to change conversations and consequently, change lives. I know that you all have certainly changed mine. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives to watch our show. I am forever grateful for this time we had together. Here’s to many more stories and many more memories, whatever they may be. With so much gratitude, my best wishes, and the warmest regards, DL x

It was an emotional night all-around to be sure, but maybe the most emotional post of all came from one of Dan Levy’s biggest supporters of all-time: his mom. “Today I regret every single second of worry back in the uninformed 80’s-wondering how the world was going to treat my brilliant little boy who loved to twirl,” Deborah Divine wrote on Twitter. “Little did I know that he was going to kick that old world’s ass to the curb and create a brand new one.”Yeah, we’re not crying, you’re crying.[video_embed id='1936015']BEFORE YOU GO: Will Smith and Tyra Banks re-enact hilarious ‘Fresh Prince’ scene[/video_embed]
