If you’re still buzzing over the news of T-Swift’s new album, well, brace yourself, because that isn’t the only exciting announcement to hit mainstream media today. Another Hollywood powerhouse is making moves – specifically, she’s moving her way back onto our screens. Emma Stone, beloved for her quick-wit and quirk on-screen personas, is officially confirmed for a new half-hour comedy show titled The Curse coming to Showtime.

Earlier today, Deadline shared that Stone has signed on to star alongside Nathan Fielder for the ‘genre-bending comedy’. Apparently, The Curse will centre around Stone and Fielder’s characters, a newly married couple who are trying (and perhaps often failing) to navigate marriage, trying for a baby, and co-starring on their very own HGTV show all while also contending with an alleged curse. TBH, the entire year of 2020 feels like a curse, so this feels like highly relatable content, with very familiar chaotic energy.

The best part? The show is created by Fielder and Uncut Gems director Benny Safdie, who will also reportedly star while his brother, Josh Safdie, will executive produce. Stone and Fielder will join the executive production team as well, with A24 producing.

ICYMI, Uncut Gems was an absolute rollercoaster ride of a movie. Like a panic attack that lasted for exactly 2 hours and 15 minutes, the movie never once let its foot off the gas, continuously ramping up the jarring and deeply uncomfortable pressure until its bitter conclusion. To know that the creative minds behind that film are joining forces with Stone and Fielder for a project like this? Well, let’s just say we are excited. Very, very excited. And clearly, fans on Twitter agree.

Notably, The Curse will be Stone’s first starring TV role since she starred in Maniac in 2018. Stone is also rumoured to be returning for Spider-Man 3, and she and Dace McCary are current adapting The Shadows for A24 (based on the best-selling thriller novel by Stacy Willingham). As for the Safdie brothers, this is their first foray into TV territory – and what an epic debut, indeed. Fielder, for his part, recently worked on How To With John Wilson as an executive producer, and previously starred in his own show, Nathan For You, on Comedy Central.

Speaking to Deadline, Amy Israel, Executive Vice President, Scripted Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. said, “The fierce intelligence and wit of the incomparable Emma Stone make her the perfect partner with the ingenious minds of the Safdie brothers and the subversive comedy of Nathan Fielder. Together, they promise to deliver a groundbreaking satire that is both unexpected and deeply human. Showtime continues to shine as a beacon for visionary filmmakers who are looking to create their ambitious, singular shows.”

Honestly, with news like this, 2021 is already looking up.
