'Canada's Drag Race' gets its Snatch Game and a Night of 1,000 Célines

It was the Céline-cerest form of flattery.

It may be cold in that workroom (seriously, can someone please get these queens a space heater?!), but the competition is heating up on Canada’s Drag Race (Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Crave).

When an emotional Ilona Verley spoke about how she almost didn’t want to go through with the lip sync because she didn’t want to hurt Tynomi Banks by sending her home, Priyanka went off on on her for playing the victim card. Though she immediately apologized for insinuating Ilona wasn’t being genuine, the vibe in the room was awkwaaaaard, to say the least.

But with everyone's favourite Maxi Challenge, Snatch Game, ahead, plus a runway tribute to the original queen of the North, Céline Dion, these queens had their work cut out for them this week.[video_embed id='2001844']WATCH: Tynomi Banks shares her thoughts on that epic lip sync, and her elimination[/video_embed]

Turning the page

After that workroom awkwardness, the queens let it all out in this week's reading Mini Challenge. For the uninitiated, reading originated in drag ballroom culture as an organized competition to see who could come up with the cleverest (read: most brutal) disses. On Drag Race, the reading challenge is known to produce some of the most memorable one-liners and memes.

Speaking of memes, can we have a moment of silence for Jeffree Bowyer-Chapman’s “use it better, maybe” comment to Jimbo during last week's runway judging, which made the rounds on social media last week? Truly proud it's now a part of our Canadian heritage.

Back to the bibiothèque. Rita Baga didn't hold back-a during while reading Brooke Lynn, saying she’s happy Canada’s Drag Race will allow a Canadian to finally win! *Gasp!* She does know Brooke Lynn is a judge, right?

But it was Lemon who won the challenge by serving the perfect mix of sweet and sour — well, mostly sour, but hey, that’s the name of the game, right?

Trying to snatch the crown

After catching up with Squirrel Friend Traci Melchor on the SheTalk red carpet, the queens flexed their improv muscles by filling in the blanks along with celebrity guests, interior design power couple Colin and Justin.

Shockingly, Canada’s first-ever Snatch Game didn't actually include any impersonations of Canadian celebrities! What's up with that, eh? Sure, we eventually got our Céline Dion fix, but we were kind of hoping someone would do Queen Céline justice during Snatch Game after Brooke Lynn so infamously missed the mark in Season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. At least Brooke Lynn owned her past mistakes, joking she had to host this time around because she bombed hers so hard!

It’s a shame Priyanka failed to predict that her impersonation of TV psychic Miss Cleo would completely miss the mark; Colin and Justin were visibly confused while trying to understand some of her answers. Yiiiiikes! Seeing as she’s a former children’s TV host and was super confident in her improv abilities, it was surprising to see her falter in both the reading challenge and the Snatch Game. Come on, Pri Pri, we know you have it in you!Lemon, on the other hand, totally nailed her impersonation (or should we say, impewsonation) of JoJo Siwa, the fast-talking, ponytail-wearing YouTuber birthed by Dance Moms.

Queer, far, wherever you are

Beloved Newfoundland comedian Mary Walsh (a.k.a. Marg Delahunty) was the perfect choice for guest host this week, doling out detailed feedback and advice on improv to the queens after the realness.

While Rita Baga’s over-the-hill and generally over-it take on iconic French singer Édith Piaf had the judges rolling during Snatch Game, they weren’t seeing La vie en rose when it came to her runway presentation. The Montreal queen channeled '80s Quebecois pop star Céline, while d-d-d-dancing down the runway à la the "Love Can Move Mountains" video. Brooke Lynn felt her outfit choices were lackluster compared to the more glamorous looks the other contestants chose.

Jimbo won the challenge due to her hilarious take on comedienne Joan Rivers, channeling her status as an insult comic to read the other queens during the game. Her sequined version of Céline’s 2019 Paris fashion week jumpsuit definitely didn’t hurt either!

Priyanka’s two-in-one look, which began with Céline’s snow queen 1994 wedding gown and gave way to the golden gown she wore to the 2017 Billboard Awards, was gorgeous, but not enough to save her from the bottom two this week. She was joined by Kiara, whose Mariah Carey impression (which Kiara herself called “Mariah Scarey”) lacked any real punchlines. But Kiara didn't pull any punches during the lip sync to Céline Dion's "I Drove All Night," busting out death drops, somersaults, not to mention, some wicked hairography. Her drive to win was equally matched by Priyanka, who dug deep to channel the passion of Céline's vocals while pulling out some stunts of her own (who could forget that jump split?!). Once the cheers in the room died down, the judges made their decision and announced Kiara was going home. But Kiki is still determined as ever to make it, playfully telling the camera she wants to be on All Stars as she exited.Only seven queens remain.
