Get ready to fall even more in love with Brad Pitt than you already were. We know, we didn’t think it was possible either. The Oscar-winner appeared on the series premiere of
Celebrity IOU on Monday night and teamed up with Canadian renovation stars Jonathan and Drew Scott to renovate a guest house for his longtime friend and makeup artist, Jean Black. Not only is Pitt one of the most famous and handsome men in the world, he’s also a great friend and listener. Sometimes God does give with two hands.Monday’s episode began with Drew stating the obvious, which was that the brothers assumed Pitt asking to be a part of their show was a prank. Pitt was very serious about his desire to be involved in the show, including all the decisions that went into designing Black’s new space. Pitt and Black have been friends for three decades and have worked on close to 40 films together, which is why the
Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood star asked the Property Brothers for their help doing something special for Jean. “To be able to do this for her is a dream, because this is a dream for her,” said Pitt, who Black credits for keeping her desire to remain in the movie business going. The episode was sprinkled with gems about the pair’s longstanding friendship, like the time Jean ‘had to’ put makeup on Brad’s butt while filming
Legends of the Fall because of bad tan lines. “When it comes up, we can’t really look each other in the eye,” said Pitt.According to Jonathan, Pitt knew exactly what his friend would want when turning her storage shed into a guest home/makeup room because “These are things he’s been cataloguing, listening to Jean, hearing her thoughts, knowing what she likes, and tucking it away for a rainy day like today.” FYI, Brad Pitt is a great listener. We are deceased.
Pitt was hands-on throughout the project, something that cameras continually showed, presumably because it was as close as producers could get to recreating a PG version of the pottery scene from
Ghost. As Pitt said at one point, “I’m extremely tactile. In fact, I prefer the design be more in the materiality than actual décor, decoration. Seeing how the materials relate to each other and what is the feeling you get living amongst it.” Yes, we also got lost there, but at least we had Pitt’s eyes to swim around in for a while. The actor came armed with knowledge of building codes and a love for the sounds of a construction site. “If I’m not building, I’m dying,” said Pitt.
When it was finally time to meet Jean Black, the tears finally flowed thanks to an innovative design and personal touches. Speaking to
EW about their new series, Jonathan praised Pitt, saying “Brad was the coolest, most down-to-earth guy, and was sweet to everybody. I've never seen this before but when he'd join us on site, he remembered everyone's name from the production crew, my construction crew, and he took the time to say hello to everyone every time he was there.” Le sigh.
Celebrity IOU’s premiere season is packed with more big-name celebrities, including Viola Davis, Melissa McCarthy, Jeremy Renner, Rebel Wilson and Michael Buble. The Scott brothers told
EW that it was a chance meeting with Davis five years ago at the Emmys that cemented their idea for
Celebrity IOU, with the award-winning actor telling Jonathan and Drew on the spot that she would do the show.
