The combination of quarantine and homeschooling is forcing parents everywhere to come up with creative ways to keep their kids engaged while also holding onto their own sanity. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are parents to two young children and are sharing their trick to getting through the day while keeping things educational for their kids. It’s the intersection of outsourcing teaching and wine and it’s brilliant.Marking one of their only interviews together as a couple, Kunis and Kutcher appeared on Monday night’s episode of
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (weeknights at 11:35pET on CTV2), filming from their home in California. When asked about how their two young children are doing at the moment, Kunis delivered what is possibly the most relatable parental sentence ever uttered on late night TV. “They have an iPad and pretzels, so you have about 20 minutes, Jimmy,” said Kunis. “They’re sitting behind [the camera] and I keep checking on their snack supply.”Kunis said that the new homeschooling set up has made it noticeably clear who in their house oversees the classroom and who is waiting in the wings to grade papers and provide moral support. We’re already impressed by the division of labour, but the couple’s best homeschooling hack is tapping into their contact list.
“We’ve enlisted our friends to do 20-minute Zoom sessions with our kids,” said Kunis. “We’ve said, teach our kids anything. It can be anything from flower arrangements to architecture. So, that gives us 20 minutes of not-parenting and also allows our kids to have another type of interaction.” As noted by Kutcher, this is most successful when asking friends who don’t have kids and aren’t exhausted from their own homeschooling schedule. “I need your friend’s numbers,” said Fallon. Quarantine Wine, which sold out its first 2,000 cases only eight hours after the couple
announced the product on Kutcher’s Instagram. “In a weird way I combined my favourite things; drinking and donating,” said Kunis, who came up with the idea only one month ago. With 100 percent of the profits going to charity, Quarantine Wine has already raised $1 million for various national charities designed to help people during the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was just about allowing people to have way to feel good about themselves, donate their $50 and get something in return. Have fun with it, enjoy it, post it and know that your money went somewhere useful,” she said. The pair memorably wrapped up their appearance by playing a new game called Voice Swap and were tasked with answering for their partner while the other person mouthed the words. Kunis was unable to hold her laughter back from the start. Quarantine will do that. Speaking through her tears the actress admitted, “My worst fear is SNL and it’s because of this. I enjoy laughter and I have a very hard time holding it down.” Kutcher, who was such a natural at the game that he even opted to go shirtless at one point to drive home the story, added “You and Jimmy on SNL would have been great.” Lorne Michaels would disagree.[video_embed id='1952160']BEFORE YOU GO: Karine Vanasse reveals how she's keeping busy in quarantine[/video_embed]
