You may already know the name Vivian Hicks. The Ontario teen has a loyal social media following (1.3 million followers on TikTok; over 385, 000 on Instagram), and the singer-songwriter was a contestant on CTV's The Launch, and now she has the honour of being the only Canadian to get the coveted golden ticket on American Idol. But we'll have to wait until Hollywood Week to see her singing chops on the Idol stage.

The 17-year-old announced on her social media Sunday night that she was headed to La La Land after impressing the judges during her American Idol audition, (though she's got some Canadian competition) but it's not entirely clear at this moment why American Idol chose not to air her segment (countless auditions are simply cut for time), but you’d be wise not to sleep on this talented singer, as she is definitely one to watch.

"The whole experience was amazing and kind of blur at first," she told etalk. "When you’re in that room with the judges everything feels so surreal. Having my family and my team at the audition was definitely a big help.""I was so focused during the audition and was over the moon excited when I got three yes’s!" she added. "Lionel and Katy both gave me compliments about my control and vocal delivery which I was so happy about.”

Vivian clearly already comes with a massive built-in fan base and we have it on good authority that Hicks is upholding the Great White North's reputation, since we all actually got to see her audition on The Launch two years ago. She made it to the final two and was coached by none other than living legend Shania Twain for the final showdown between her and Logan Staats. Vivian ultimately came in second, with Logan earning the honour to release the song, "The Lucky Ones," but second place ain't bad either. Especially when you've got a voice like that.

Ahead of her time on the actual aired portion of American Idol, Canadians can also check out the hopeful on YouTube, where she can be seen singing original songs and also covers. Looks like this girl's got the pipes, drive, hustle and ambition that often pays off during talent shows like this one. We just hope Lionel, Katy and Luke continue to agree.

So are we excited at a future with a Canadian being crowned an American Idol? The short answer is yes. The long answer is heck yes.
