The Blind Auditions continued on Tuesday night’s The Voice (Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on CTV2), with coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Gwen Stefani, and Blake Shelton continuing to round out their teams with strong and unique singers. But only one artist crossed enough genres to earn a four-chair turn, with 14-year-old Preston C. Howell eliciting some very strong and frankly, very odd reactions from the coaches. It was a lot to take in and we’re much older than 14.

Gwen’s style of parenting was on display

Preston C. Howell transported the coaches and viewers with his beautiful performance of “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” which was not only pitch-perfect, but also original, a welcome change from the crooners we’ve heard on past seasons who did imitations of Michael Buble (we love the Bubes, but we already have one). It was no surprise that Preston earned a four-chair turn, with Kelly begging, Blake dropping his friendship with Buble into conversation approximately 12 times, and John simply existing as a jazz-singing EGOT winner. As for Gwen, she went a different route, getting out of her chair and walking towards Preston as she serenaded him. Exclaiming that she wants to ‘mother’ him, since she is already mom to three boys, we feel like Gwen forgot for a moment what she looks like to a teen. What she does not look like is someone’s mother, unless their mother is super, super hot. Like, super hot. Preston picked John.

Twinspiration

Dane and Stephanie are 21-year-old twins, which already makes them stand out on The Voice, but the duo are also sharing their story to help other viewers who don’t often see themselves on screen. Dane was born Dana and with the support of his family and twin sister Stephanie has been transitioning, finally seeing his true self reflected in the mirror. Annnnd we’re crying. Yes Dane! We also learned on Tuesday that #twinharmonies are even better than regular old #familyharmonies.

Our first rapping singer has arrived

In Season 16 we saw Kim Cherry make it all the way to the semifinals with her incredible talent of rapping and singing. On Tuesday night, we finally got another artist who is a double threat, with Injoy Fountain leaving all her swag on the stage with a performance of Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings.” Kelly and Gwen both turned for Injoy, with Gwen reminding the world that she too has worked the soundtrack from The Sound of Music into a pop song (“Wind It Up,” still a jam), while Kelly went straight to the charm for her pitch. Charm, as well as a career that includes winning American Idol, won out. Finally, a singing, rapping, Broadway-superstar for Season 17.

Season 17’s newest heartthrob James Violet gave a soft and loving performance of “Sweet Creature,” prompting Kelly and Gwen to fight for James by actually fighting, with the women thiiiiis close to taking out their earrings. Snap. The fact that no one made a “Hollaback Girl” reference was severely disappointing. James did pick Gwen, but the missed opportunity was still bananas. B-a-n-a-n-a-s.
